What kind of textured paint is used on the inside of the doors ? At first I thought it was part of the steel but when I wiped it down with reducer it wiped smooth. Is it just regular wrinkle paint or is there another way it has to be done ?
What year model? It was textured steel on the early models. I don't know when they changed to smooth, maybe 73/74.
It would take a LOT of sanding...as the texture is "cast" or "pressed" right into the metal. Would be easier to fill with putty.
The doors are textured everywhere but the one spot I cleaned, but it was textured to begin with. If they are the wrong doors then I wish I knew how they got the paint like that. They look the same as my '71's.
The earlier doors were cast to look like leather or some material. It's not the paint. It is possible that someone sprayed yours to look like they were textured. Maybe with bedliner? Later doors are smooth metal as Mr. Craig Selvey stated.
are you talking about this part of the door in the attached picture? because I don't think that part of my door is metal...I think it is real hard plastic and if you cleaned it with acetone it probably did wipe smooth.... Also I have seen spots on some cars (non A/C cars mostly) that are worn smooth because that it where the driver rests their arm
Yes, the part of the door I am talking about is where the white arrow is in the picture. I was thinking that it may have filled it in like Mavaholic said so I used a pick and tried to clean it. It did not work all that well. Gonna try some more reducer and soften it up some more and see what that does.
