Hey guys, I'm looking at buying a 1971 Ford Maverick Grabber. The guy I'm buying it off says the frame is rusted but he just replaced all the fenders, also it has a grabber hood on it. I'm restoring a 1977 Mercury Comet right now, but also have a 1975 Maverick that I might restore, not sure yet. But I was just wondering would it be easy to put a grabber hood on a comet, because I just love the hood scoop but I love my comet and think it would make a good combation. Any hints/tips or suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks, Brandon Melnyk

Although it will bolt on, the front of the 2 hoods are totally different. The Comet has the extension so nothing will line up without modifications.

What kind of modifications would I need to do? Is it worth the work?

Look at the grill on your Comet, and compare it to a Maverick, the front is different. You could do it if you put a maverick grill in your Comet, then you'll have to move the front bumper to match, Comets stick out at least 6" more than a Maverick (on big bumpered cars)

The 74-77 Maverick and Comet use the same front bumper. The Comet sticks out further because of the hood and grill extension. You can put the Grabber hood and grill on the Comet as stated but that will make that bumper appear to stick out even further.

i wouldnt do it, IMO the GT scoop looks better anyway. essentally youd be molesting your comet into a grabber clone. if you want a maverick do it, if you want a comet dont. I dont know how good of a frabricator you are but a cool idea might be to cut the front of the grabber hood off and weld the front of the comet on in its place. so essentally youd have a comet grill with with grabber scoops. another idea might be to just sell it off, im sure an extra $3-500 in the budget might move one of your projects along a little

    good luck
