I have my first car show coming up in a week or so and had a question and a thought. I have a pinned on hood that I am at a loss as to how to show the car. I could always put it on the roof, with a blanket of course but what wondering what others have done.

One idea I had was to fabricate four rods, perhaps 20" long or so. I would weld a hood pin on top of each and drill a hole for the lower pin. Then I could slide these over my pins, insert the lower pins to hold them and then install the hood on the uppers pins. This would leave a nice 20" viewing "window" and also allow people to see the nice finish work on the hood and the underside as well. Thoughts? (I have already thought of the phantom wind that may arrive)

thats the only way ive ever seen it done. maybe if you can park somewhere with grass behind you wheres theres no foot traffic you can leave it on the ground.

or maybe you could just leave the hood at home

yep i seen that done before where the hood is held up with rods over the engine bay. other then that the hood on top of the car looks tacky ;) or you can just by one of my hoods that use the stock hinges. ;) sorry i have to give a cheap plug ;)

I have a friend that shows his Mustang with a rod setup like you mentioned and it seems to work out rather well. If it gets too windy, put the hood back on. Most likely everything will be okay. Just make sure your rods fit the pins fairly snug. (y)

I saw one a guy used pipe w/pins & warshers attached on the top to pin on the hood & drilled holes @ the bottom so he could also pin the pipes. Then after he fit them he had them powder coated for show. Looked nice he didn't go way up in the air with them just enough to see his engine compartment. If it gets windy you close your hood anyway so I can't see why they wouldn't work. Good Luck @ Show!! I start this weekend!

For a temporary fix, how about setting it on top of a couple of creepers then roll it underneath the car; should be out of the way.

if you pin the rods to the lower hood pins. and weld a large washer to the top of each of the rods for the hood to sit on, then you can still pin the hood on at the top. hope that make sense.:)
