I shot some Satin Black Krylon on my green interior panels and they look better, but not perfect. I didn't expect them to, since they have some of that crusty stuff on them from where the plastic has oxidized over the years, and a couple of scuffs and scratches. But, still looks MUCH better. I am pretty sure I have heard that others have used this Krylon paint in the past...how has it held up? Here is what I have so far...
Looks good... When I did it it eventually would get scratched, easily also. I'm thinking of trying to see if those pieces can be covered with vinyl myself. Intresting...Lets see what others are doing...
Isn't there a type of plastic spray that you can use on old parts like these? I always here something like that, but I can never remember. Better go check to see if they got them at Pep-boys, since I do work there, lol.
I used krylon fusion for the panels, prepped the parts as per directions, held up real good everywhere but the bends around the door frame, other than that, 3 years so far, no complaints, and I've taken them out a number of times so that may be why they wore a little
I believe there is an adhesion promoter available to prep those plastic parts with before painting...
T.L. is correct there is such a product, I have never used it before, so I can't give any feedback on how good it is or isn't. I personally have had good results using Krylon.
Anyone know what the prep is called? I just rubbed it down with rubbing alcohol to clean it and then shot about 6 nice even coats of Krylon. Then crossed my fingers...
There are different brands. I am sure SEM has one. I just bought some Duplicolor adhesion promoter (I think from Walmart). It's made specifically for prepping plastics for paint. I would also try Krylon Fusion paint, which supposedly needs no primer...
Anyone have any long-term results from using Krylon? Ya, sometimes I see unexplained colors and walk all the way into another room only to find that I forgot what I was looking for .
I pretty much did the same thing to my interior panels (including the sun visors) about 2 years ago. Cleaned real good with Greased Lightning and a brush. Sun dried and hit with a couple of coats of black gloss rattle can (? brand but not specifically for plastic). Still looks fine to me. Although - I suspect it will not hold up to a lot of sunlight. Which is fine, because the Mav sits in the garage. I hit scratches and rust spots on my trailer (sits in the field when not in use) with the same rattle can black and it doesnt stay glossy very long, maybe 3-4 months. Cant comment on the Fusion brand. Never used it. Cleaver
Had mine covered in vynil. Looked great until it sat in the sun at first car show, started peeeling off. Going to take them back to shop to get redone.
