I am looking at, rather than swapping my bumpers and painting new valences, just tucking the large bumpers on my 1975 Maverick in a few inches. I am wondering how difficult this would be. Thanks
Check this thread. There are a few guys that have done a tuck http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=20262&highlight=bumper+tuck
When you do the "tuck" you may want to section the bumper to get the bumper closer on the sides. If you check out RadMav's maroon Maverick that is what he did and a fine job at that
if anything good can be said about the big bumpers its that there probably alot safer in an accident. im kinda scared now thinking about someone running into the back of me as close as that gas tank is.
if someone runs into my rear while im sitting at a light its not really my fault. im thinking of switching to a cell in the trunk just for my own peace of mind. the rear valance literally touches the gas tank. i keep thinking some kid driving a ricer lowered to to the ground is gonna fly up my @$$ one day cause he didnt notice the red light and me sitting there
Small front bumper on my '73 for me. Big bumpers on the '77 for my 17 year old daughter. However, the front has been tucked and the spoiler I put on the deck lid minimizes the look of the rear bumper. I'll be posting pictures soon of the '77. I'm about finished getting the exterior parts back on.
I agree, The 74 Comet we are building is for my son so it stays with Big bumpers. Although, in 1975 I was rearended hard enough to knock me off the road, over an embankment and flip several times in a 72 Comrick? a front clip of a Comet and rear clip from a Maverick no burst fuel tank and I am still here to write this.
I prefer the look of the big bumpers. The small bumper cars just have that "high" look...the car just looks like it is sitting too high. Lowering it helps but it still looks different. I guess that's why they're popular...they just complete the uniqueness of the Maverick or Comet body lines. I tucked the front bumper on my '75. I like the look of it being closer to the front of the car, but I wish I would have sectioned it to bring it closer to the fenders at the sides. It wouldn't take much, maybe an inch or so but it would look 10 times better. The bumper I have now it not in the greatest shape, so I am not too concerned about it. I'd like to have a GOOD big front bumper without the bumper guards, though. If ya'll know of anyone who has one (preferably locally or at least close) let me know. I can't seem to find any fiberglass replacements anywhere! The rear bumper could stand to be tucked too but I installed the spoiler on the rear of the car and the struts are bolted to it to it looks fine the way it is. The spoiler takes your attention off of the bumper. Going to get some good pics of it soon...currently in the process of color sanding and fixing some of the home paint job "screwups" but so far it's going well. Just a LOT of work!
I prefer the small bumpers on the comet... but the bigger ones on the mavericks... Something about hte big bumpers on the front of a comet make it look funny to me
