Thanks And do you have pics of your exhaust set up? Thats EXACTLY how I want my pipes to exit, so I'm curious
That setup is long gone...it was headers with 3-6" pipe to 24" glasspacks, then parallel to driveshaft then just coming out in front of the tires at about a 45 degree angle. The glasspacks didn't fit really well and rubbed and vibrated on the floorpan. Then when I put on caltracs, I had to ditch the side exit pipes because that is exactly where the caltrac "stuff" was mounted... Here is what I have now dumping right at the axle...
Oh alright. I may do a set up like you have pictured there but instead of the turn downs just have more tubing and have them exit out the side.
If you are going with mufflers (as opposed to glasspacks) you really should mount them that far back. There is a recessed area under the back seat that lets those mufflers sit really high (notice that my mufflers and pipes are all as high or higher than my caltracs, subframes, etc). From there, you could easily exit behind the tire. You might even be able to put in a mandrel bent U and bring them out in front of the tire, but that might look "cluttered" when finished... I have had 4 different exhaust setups and this one is the one I have liked the most so far. Ooops. I think this thread has been jacked. QUICK!!! Someone! ask me a question about tires again
Hmm.. I'll look into it. As soon as I got this car I pictured having side exit exhaust on it so.. Maybe I'll get the mufflers that have the inlet and outlet on the same side. Spintechs I think they're called
There were some spintech side exit muffs for sale in the "for sale" forum about a week ago... Gotta watch it though... side exit does not play well with subframe connectors or some types of traction bars! To me, SFCs are FAR MORE important than side exhaust.
That is EXACTLY why I had to ditch the side exit...I added the subfames and it was still OK, but the slapper bars hit them a little, and the Cal-Tracs would not mount with the side exit pipes. I will admit, though, that I really liked the sound and the look of the side exit pipes with the glasspacks. If you found someone who could mount them right and take a little time, he could make them work very well. BONUS!!! 24" glasspacks are only $20 each
How did the car sound with glasspacks? My friends LT1 had glasspacks and they didn't sound all that good.. His exhaust was a little messed up at the time too so that might of been the actual problem
The glasspacks had a deep sound, sort like Flowmasters, but without the tinny "pinging" you hear from Flows. I have always like glasspacks and have used them on almost all my cars in the past.
I found these. They have a 2 1/2 inch inlet and outlet and are 26 inches. Seem good? http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10002_769107_-1
Cherry Bombs are a name brand, and are supposed to be good, but I have never used or heard them. I think I only paid $15 each for mine at the local muffler shop. Just plain silver, no name brand, etc... Have the installer be aware of the e-brake cable and have them installed as parallel to the drive shaft as possible. Also make sure there is enough clearance so that your g-packs don't vibrate against the floor pan. Just some errors my last guy made that I didn't find until after I got it home. I use a different guy now. Do you have headers? If not, they should be able to do a nice and straight installation. Headers will exit at different angles and the installer should compensate for that and line them up parallel as soon as they leave and continue a parallel installation through the back.
I have 6901's with a 3 inch collector. I kind of want to get cut outs, so that will handle my 3inch to 2 1/2inch transition
That is the exact setup I had. 6901, cutouts, glasspacks, side exit. The cutouts WILL hit everything you go over, so I gave mine away when I disassembled this exhaust setup. Sounds good when open, but the engine will run worse at the track unless you specifically tune the carb for it to be open (then it will run worse when closed back up). Just letting you know the issues I came across that led to the current setup...
Alright thanks. How did you do the side exit? Just had like a 45 degree angle come out from the glasspacks?
