I got these new Toyo Tires 28x9 slicks and mounted them up on my 15x10" rims. They barely fit and look like those outlaw cars with the rims bigger than the tire tread. I can't believe they fit! They were buy one, get one free so I had to try them. The actual measurements are 27.7" diameter, 9" tread, and 11.1" section width. They look like the biggest tire I could fit without serious modification and should work good when I finally hook up the nitrous. I know, I know:ttiwwp:

8-10". I've heard from super stockers and other racers that the 10" rim is perfect for the 28x9 slick. Also, heard a lot of outlaw and heads up guys saying the biggest rim possible is best. Never could figure out why though :hmmm::huh:.

Yeah, assuming they test out OK. Might go slower??? but hopefully will be more consistent and easier on the motor (less rpm's), until I add the juice.

Where to buy? man dont hold out yo???????????????????
I run hoosiers most of the time on a 8.5 centerline rim. The wider the wheel the wider the footprint of the tire it actuay makes it roll out the side wall. Also the reason i run hoosiers is thay ara true 28. The mickeys are 27.something also but the m/t arent even 9 wide. Anyway thats why i have always liked hoosiers but i'd like to see a toyo.

A rim that is too wide can cause the tire to cup giving less than optimal traction. Just a thought.

I tested them last night and was able to get OK traction after about 4 runs and lowering the pressures down. My MPH in the 1/8 went up about 1.5mph and the ET was about the same w/ a slower 60'. I did get my best 1/8 time so far at 6.87 @ 101.3mph. It should have gone a low 80 if I could have really hooked up...the track I was at was very marginal and it was street night. Bottom line, I think they will work.

FYI, the diameter of 27.7" clears the lower wheel well by about 1/2". I wanted to get the 28x9 Hoosier's but I thought they may be too big cause like you said they are a true 28x9". I almost got the Mickey's cause they are 27.3" dia x 8.7" tread (I think), but the Toyo deal was too good.

I bought them through Les Schwab tires. I think they have them around the country, but they didn't have any in my area so I had them shipped for about $20/tire.

I hope to do more testing/racing in a few weeks. I'll try to remember to bring home my work camera so I can take a few pics.

Plenty of room from the leaf springs for me (3/4"), but my rear end is 1/8" wider than stock on each side (custom width). Rim backspacing is 4.5" I'll try to take some pics for ya.

No, but they are supposed to be designed for manual transmission cars, which I'm guessing means that the sidewall is stiffer than normal. I like them so far.
