I was wondering if anyone has tried this, I have noticed alot of us poor maverick owners would rather buy parts then spot the money for an expensive paint job. I am probably going to try it I mean it is worth a shot right? http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/body/hrdp_0707_1962_ford_falcon_budget_paint_job/
yea a few people have been talking about that article. theres a guy over on oldspower.com who tried it on his toranado and it came out really nice, at least it looks that way in the pics
In this pic you can see the door still has the original finish while the rest is rustolem Heres hhow it turned out. once he buffes it out he'll be posting some high-res pics
If you have little to no money and want to paint your car Use an acrylic enamal kit from Trinity. Paint applies just like DuPont Centari. Gallon of paint - thinner - hardener - painting supply kit $65-$74 for everything you need And you can get metallic colors! http://www.paintforcars.com/enamel_paint_kits.html If your prep is good it will be an OK paint job - should last much longer over using a spray bomb - but remember, you get what you pay for and any cheap paint job will fade much faster than a real paint job.
From what I can gather. This is where it all started and has been going on for months and had to be broken into 3 parts (so far) on the Mopar board. http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=2331682&page=0&fpart=1&vc=1 http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=2655425&page=0&fpart=80&vc=1 http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=3493382&page=0&fpart=1&vc=1 nice read if you have a couple of weeks to kill.
yea my car's about 12 cans of $0.99 genaric flat black spray paint from wal-mart. once i get the body "perfect" i'll hit it off with something nice but in the mean time i had to definatly loose that puke yellow it used to be. im sure if i preped it good and used some white spray with one of those wide plasti-coat noxxles i could make it turn out pretty good
Sounds like a lot of work.Automotive paint can be had pretty reasonable, why not prep it & shoot it once instead of 7 or 8 times?
The one point that seems to get over looked quite often about the original Morpar post is, this is a process for people who for what ever reason can not spray paint a car. It might be lack of space, cost of materials (compressor, etc) or just have more time then money. The process described used "rust" paint and paint rollers. It was one guy saying, here is how I painted my car for $50.00. It has grown into a monster. Not sure that I would try it or not but I have enjoyed the debate and seeing the results on the Morpar thread. One unrelated comment. This is by far the best forum on the net. The most nasty thing I recall reading was a "I would not have done that, but it's your car, enjoy". While we do always agree, we manage to still support each other in our Maverick/Comet adventures.
why not There are a few reasons, first why not? If you read the mopar posts you can have it done in 3 days, for some of us to get it to one of the spray shops we would have to assemble our chassis so it can go on a trailer that we would have to rent, oh and we would have to have it rented too. The other option would be to pay someone to move it for you and that alone is more then the $50 bucks in material to paint it. All some of us can afford is a Earl Shive or Maaco paint job for three or four hundred bucks and that is basically a cheap enamel paint the only difference is I saved $250 to $350 bucks for someone else to do it, well from what I figure 250 bucks is about the price of a new dual plane intake manifold for a 302. This car is going to be my daily driver I want a mildly built 302 shift kit on the C4 and a descent looking paint job. I can't afford a nice paint job especially when one of the cheapest quotes from a reputable shop around here is $5000 and that is for basic paint and clear coat. I know if i got this paint scratched in a wal-mart parking lot I would say crap and forget about it. If i spent 5 grand on it I would really have a problem with just a minor ding. Guys it is as simple as this, and I know a few of us our in similar situations as i am. I am married I have a good job,a wonderful wife, a two year old and another one on the way, these are all good things but the killer is my wife does not work she is 7 months pregnant and going to school, so therefore I have to make a house payment, car payment, plus all the bills, food ect. I have a very limited fund on what money I can do with this car the only reason I was able to afford the car and what I have done to it so far is because my other car got totaled by a semi truck and this is the money from the insurance company and this is all I have to work with, heck the truck I am driving is a loaner until I get this car going. Sorry guys I am rambling...I was trying to give low cost option to trying to save up and have someone else do it and it actually has decent results from what I have seen on the websites I have looked at. The guys on this forum have all been great I appreciate the opinions and all the helps thanks for all of it guys. .
