    Rarest OE part

    Just like my 70 Continental....

.... had a badge on the dash that said "James K.S. Ruby". I always thought I got the Jack Ruby edition... too bad the frame was shot, and I had to crush it.

Just thought I'd throw in the heater delete plate. It was available in Hawaii, and I have a picture of a Mexican dashboard with the heater delete plate, but I've never actually seen one in real life. I've talked to people in Hawaii that have seen them but no one has ever been able to get one for me.

The lockable glovebox doors for the 70-72 underdash package trays weren't factory. They were an aftermarket item sold by JC Whitney back in the day. I have the ads for them from some 70's JC Whitney catalogs.

Same with the rear window louvers someone mentioned. They were not factory. They were an aftermarket item also available through JC Whitney. I sold them for a little while too, but the company that made them is gone now.

As for the little magnets on the dash, they were a promotional giveaway with the 70 models, but I don't know if they were given away everywhere or not. They were made by Magnetic Novelty Co. While they tended to be stuck on dashboards, they certainly could have ended up on refrigerators, Craig's toolbox, or wherever.

Another rare option no one mentioned is child safety locks for the rear doors on a 4-door. I have a set on my "Interceptor." It's the only set I've ever seen.

The dealer installed Ford radiator overflow tank is pretty rare too.

I've never actually seen a Maverick equipped with one, but battery heat shields were optional on the police and taxi versions.

I have one of the factory dealer accessory Ford fire extinguishers and a space saver spare and canister set. Those would have to rank up there for rare too.

It sure would be nice to see a photo of that leather name thing they offered in 1970!

Got a picture? Was it a St.Thomas or Kansas built car?
St.Thomas used little red-ish stamps for quality control, but they were pretty small.

Thats the quality control stamp. Some cars have a little tag on the inside left side of the trunk lid, there was a spot for different QC departments to put there stamp on, my 74 Grabber has the sticker still, and a few of my neighbors that worked at Ford still ahve their stamps, it was usually their last name, sometimes with their first initial.

Well, since were off topic. I drove my 74 along the assembly line, inside the St.Thomas Assembly Plant where it was made, and did a big smokey burn out while going out the back door of the plant. :D
