Anyone know if SCAT connecting rods have any identifiable marks. I purchased a set of rods from evilBay that were said to be SCAT part # 2-icr5400-927. However, now that I have them I am starting to wonder. These are used rods. Per scat they should have 12-point ARP screw bolts. These are normal ARP studs with 8-point nuts. (Waveloc???) There is an ink stamp that runs along the big end bolt surface. Cap side says UB-350, rod side says 350. Each one has a different UB-#. Any ideas?
5.400 with .927 pin is it possible that they are older castings and may have changed? Here is the ebay listing with photo. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...STRK:MEWN:IT&viewitem=&item=110175989907&rd=1 I need to order a replacement rod to complete the set but need to identify the rod correctly first.
Something does not seem right on those. May be an early production, but with one missing, don't know if you can get the same thing in replacement. Also I would have them all sonic tested, checked and resized, balanced again, just for safety's sake. The 347's are wicked little engines, and like high rpm's, with good cam and heads. The 7/16th's bolts are a good choice in them too. Is your crankshagt using the Ford rod journal or the small V6 chevy size? Mild or full race, good parts will save a ton of money in the long run. H-beam rods are the best for the money but not necessary in a street motor on gasoline. They do require notching the block, a little, but no big deal to do. Have used both Scat and Eagle stuff but both have given about the same life and performance in my race engine's. Still think Eagle is a little better on quality, but that is my own opinion.
took it to the machine shop to have it looked over. Still dont know what brand it is. Might be an older but Scat are usually cleaner forgings. Size is 5.400 with .927. 552g. I think he said the big end is 2.10. I called CAT and Scat and niether of them will claim it. Scat said they never offered a 5.4 rod with hex head nuts. They said that if I give them the weight of the big end and the little end they could try and match something up for me. Is that a good idea? They use cap screws these have thru-bolts. CATs have a cat impression on them. I looked at photos of eagle, probe, lunati, and summit, and none match up. Probe is really close but they dont list a .927 pin size. Any other brands out there?
