Ok so i bought a Spare grabber hood, hood lip isnt rotted, but i think the car must of spent some time by the ocean, looks rusted/pitted underneath the chipping paint, Whats the best way to go about preserving this hood, i was thinking about inviro blasting then, painting with epoxy primer....MY QUESTION IS WILL IT CONTINUE TO RUST EVEN IF ITS BEEN BLASTED AND ALL RUST CLEANED OUT...i know its gonna be pitted pretty bad......... Im from arizona and not familiar with rust, let me know wacha think :)

Most of these hoods rot from the inside out. About the only way to contain it that I can think of is to have it dipped.

it needs to be dipped into somthing so it can get under the skin of the hood where the rust is comming from. the rust is eating away from the inside out so blasting the outside of the hood isnt going to get everything.

going back and re-reading your post it sounds like you just have surface rust issues and not the inside out rust most of us have to deal with

theres the rust that crumbles away when you thouch it and theres surface rust which is just an issue of paint wearing off and exposing the steel to the elements. surface rust is ALOT easier to deal with.

If you're talking about rust holes under the lip - then Dennis covered it. If you're talking about the hood being covered in surface rust then most likely there was a battery leak, high heat, and/or the hood was stored outside exposing the bottom side up. I just sold a Monte Carlo hood that look very similar to what you describe. The paint on top was fine, but underneath it was completely surface rusty - but it had no REAL rust (being holes - cancer). The buyer is taking it to get media blasted and will spray on a coat of primer/sealer. He will then store it - it's an extra hood. (y)
