I will probably be replacing the shocks on my Maverick, front and rear, pretty soon. Question is which do I get. They have, what I believe are Regular KYB's and KYB Adjust shocks. I believe the adjustable ones are approx $10 more a shock. What exactly is the reason for the adjustable shocks, I'm not familiar with how they work? And is it worth getting them over the regular KYB's?

    Thanks

    I agree with Joe.

Also, the Gas-a-just shocks are only available for the front. The GR2's are available front and rear.

This is not a drag strip car, but it is going to be a Street Rod. performance spirited driven kind of car.

I am not 100% sure that KYB adjust-a-shocks are available on Mavericks all the way around, but on Cougars, they are. I bought a set for my son's '69 XR7 conv. along with a complete new front end kit including 620 shocks. The new rear springs were stock specs. They had a fairly stiff ride, very firm. The springs could have been part of the it. The shocks had not adjustments of them but supposedly adjust to road conditions.

I put a set of KYB GR 2's on my daily driving conv but did not change the springs, replacing most of the front suspension parts. It has a much softer ride, which is more comfortable for the type of driving for which it is used.

hey morgan, i have the kyb's on my car and they do make for a stiffer ride. they are also self adjusting. the gr2's are more toward street driven cars with a step up from stock. if you are planning on "playing" with it i would go with the gas- a- just kybs. just know it is a firmer ride over stock.

Hey Jason, do you have the Gas-a-Just's front and rear? because they only have a listing for the Maverick for front only. They have them for front and rear under Mustang. I would think they use the same shocks? 1964-1970 Mustang. Correct me if I'm wrong.

yep.... the gas a just are not adjustable. they kinda adjust themselves. i have had these on other cars. they offer a punishing ride. the theory is to make the tires absorb the bumps in the road, keeping them on the ground. if you are ok with a VERY stiff ride, this is the shock for you in that they do improve handling. i love them. they only are available for the front. what we did was go with four leaf rear springs from springs and things along with g2 shocks in back as well as the gas a just in fromnt. a very stiff ride all around but a huge improvement in handling. also have the firehawks (indy 500 series) for tires. pretty soft rubber. great grip on pavement. not cheap. and if you like to do burnouts, this isn't the tire for you. you'll wear them out in no time.

My dad has KYB Gas-A-Just on his 65 Mustang and loves them. If that's any input?
I just purchased some Monroe Gas-A-Matic front shocks for my Maverick. Going to install them this weekend. I'm sure it will be an improvement over the oiled stock shocks?
And on the issue, is there any thing unexpected or tips to shock installing on a 1977? Or is it pretty straight forward?

The maverick rear shock has an eyelet on the top and a pin on the bottom, the mustang has pins at both ends.
