Blew a head gasket at the track yesterday- trying to get ready to go back next Sat. Found only these numbers on my heads when I pulled them.. SN 30575-2 and SN 30689-2. They are suppose to be Trick Flow heads per prior owner. Anyone recognize these numbers? Also any recomendation on the BEST head gasket for a blower application? Thanks a bunch !! Steve
I can't tell you on the heads. But with regard to the head gaskets, I've heard that there is an MLS Felpro that works good with boosted applications and the Cometics which I am using on my motor.
I use the 1046 Fel-Pros, If your head or block has NOT been o-ringed. I have ran these gaskets for 12 years, NEVER had a failure. My buddys run some of the MLS gaskets, and have had some small problems. All these gaskets are high priced, But if you are sure your tune is correct then you may need these type of gaskets. But remember to that a head gasket is a lot cheaper than a piston, So be sure TUNE IS CORRECT before installing a top line head gasket. P.S. Specs on the 1046 Fel-Pros are, Gasket bore, 4.200 (this moves the fire ring away from the heat) Comp. Volume 11.7 cc, .051 thick (you will lose a small amount of compression) As stated earlyier these are the gaskets i have ran on my Blower motor since 1995, I have also recommend these to others that had head gasket problems. Solved everyones elses problem. P.S. these gaskets on last account were around 90 dollars apiece.
thanks man Thanks man for all the good info , the 1046s sound like they do the job for you. I ordered a set of the MLS 1133s this am. Several others suggested them as well. Heads look fine and machinist says he'll clean them up and surface them a bit while I wait. If the other stuff comes in by Wed, we should be able to make it back to the track on Sat for 1 last set of runs. Gasket blew on my 1st pass after waiting almost 2 hrs for my class to be called. Had water on the windshield by the time I shifted into 2nd !! I also order some intake gaskets that block the heat cross over, what do you think of that idea? Maybe we'll get a chance to burn off the nipples on those new slicks!!! That or break the rear I guess... thanks again appreciate it.
