Yep, the 67-68 'stang brackets worked well for me. I bolted my bumper brackets to the bumper, aligned it all up to the rear of the car, marked the taillight panel for bolt holes, drilled them out, and then laid the trunk brackets on the floor of the trunk in line with those holes, marked the trunk floor where they sit, then used my die grinder and scuffing pad to get the trunk paint up for a clean weld, drill three holes on each side of the flats on each trunk bracket, then bolted the trunk brackets to the taillight panel to hold them in the correct location and welded each one to the floor. After all of that I painted them with trunk paint, took the bolts out and bolted on the bumper, no problem.

I fabbed up some "custom ones" that give me a lot more rigidity and adjustability. I only spent Free.99 on em too. Those on that site with shipping are like $40.00. I guess for pure asthetic correctness they would be worth it, but I used 1/8"x 1 1/2" plate steel bar they fit perfectly on the back of the tail light panel and don't continue down to the trunk floor. Worked for me.

Here is a pic of the installed bumper

I have a 1976 Maverick Stallion, and 85 More Mavericks and Comets in Inventory.
We are making the actual exact Maverick/Comet rear in trunk Bumper backing mount.
It will be a Period perfect reproduction,,, they are coming to market in about 2 weeks.

    Just for support

I'm sure that your fab is fine. However, the tailpanel is rather thin metal. I think the bumper is more secure when it is attached to the support bracket when it is welded/attached to the trunk floor.
I used the brackets that Dan mentions.

yeah maybe one of these days I'll make an extension off of it and attach that to the floor. However no matter waht I do, I'll be made from solid steel, and not some cheap stamped overpriced crapzor.
