Just to add something to this, that was mentioned earlier but is not really Maverick related. The VW Semi Auto tranny did not have a clutch either.. I had one and it was a 4 speed on the floor and it had no clutch pedal. you started it in Neutral with your foot on the brake and put it in 1st then as you drove you let off the gas and shifted to the next gear just like a regular 4 speed but without a clutch.

Yep...I drove one of them back in about '74 or '75 a few times. It was kind of strange but just like you said. :)

It was very odd, especially if you had other 4 speed cars with a clutch and tried to switch from driving one to driving the other on a regular basis, talk about grinding a pound or two...

I have the 4 speed Mav and the Automatic Mav and I am forever jumping in the one with the automatic and pushng the clutch pedal (that isn't there) slam right to the floorboard... hahaha I only had that bug with the clutchless 4 speed for a ver short time because I bought it to take the front clip off of and replace the torn up front end on my 1966 bug, the one that had the clutchless 4 speed or "semi automatic" was a 1968.
