Hey guys, my steering wheel is shaking back and forth from about 40mph to 55 mph, any idea what it could be? The whole front end is new and align is good. It's not horrible just when I take my hands off wheel it does it but does not pull to left or right. Before you guys answer I know just don't take my hands off the wheel (lol). Thanks for your help. Joe

Have the wheels been balanced lately?

I agree with Rick. Another possibility is a front tire starting to seperate. I suggest moving front tires to back providing all tires are the same size and drive it again. If it goes away, the problem will be in the tires that were on front.

i agree with rick. had a tire start to seperate on my truck and could hardly hold the steering wheel. other thing is to recheck the wheel balance---see if a weight came off.:)

You don't normally get a vibration from warped rotors unless you're applying the brakes. I guess it's possible, just not likely.

most likely is a bump on the tire/s or bent wheel !!!! easy to spot, put jack stands under the car and spin the wheels and check both the tires, wheels and wheels bearings !!!! good luck !!!!

Check the idler arm. If they get worn, it is very common to get a 45 mph shake.
