Just in the past couple of days I have encountered a problem with my Maverick. When I drove it to work on Saturday, I noticed the vibration so on Sunday I took a more thorough test drive and found out that it only occurs upon acceleration and it calms down a little bit while cruising. With the car parked I can rev the motor and it is not there, so I think it is in the driveline somewhere. Any ideas on what and how to check? Thanks, Ford Guy
Trans mount, I had the same problem, changed the u joints twice even swapped the drive shaft from a "good" car. It was the mount, I never would have beleived it though
I had the same exact thing. replaced trans mount, tailshaft housing bushing and seal, etc. Still had it. I just ordered a new harmonic dampener for my new engine, and hope to lose that. If not, it HAS to be the drive shaft... I just wonder if the 35 year old balancer hadn't slipped a bit...
I had some vibration in my 77 and I replaced the u-joints and that helped a little but not much. I then took the advice of board members and replaced the trans mount and all of my vibration problems went away.
I replaced the trans mount, Harmonic balancer, U-joints and it still had the vibration. I blew up the trans so I tok it out, re-installed the bell houseiong and starter and it doesn't vibrate. And Man does thAT BABY SPIN UP TO 4500 rpms with no torque converter on it. LOL
Thanks guys, I had thought about the driveshaft of the trans mount but I wasn't sure. When I get a chance I will check them both and let ya'll know what it is. Thanks again, Ford Guy
How will the engine go through the radiator? Does the torque push it forward as well as twist it sideways? I have kinda been wondering about this because I have my new motor on a stand and was wondering what would happen if I cranked it up on there... NO! I wasn't going to DO it...just wondering what would happen if I did...
Hello, just wanted to update, I got a chance to look at it today and it turned out to be a bad u-joint. Thanks everybody for your help, -Ford Guy
