10 Mavericks. 30+ Pintos, dozens of Galaxies and LTDs and Granadas. I was pleased when the old man fired up his tractor and drove us down into his woods brimming with old metal. Rows of Pintos and clutches of Mavericks. There was 7 early Mavs in a bunch and when I looked and saw one was a Grabber I got down and checked them out. All 2 doors with an orange on black Grabber hit hard in the rear. No hood so I asked and he said it was "on the green one over yonder" and pointed to what turned out to be a fabled 69.5 with the dash start! I was stoked. Dark green with a flat Grabber hood in orange. We drove on and there were others peppered in the woods here and there but when I saw a stripe i once again checked it out and it was another Grabber, this time blue with silver stripes. Hit in the rear like the first. Again no hood but he said he thought it might be in the barn "up the hill". There was several Granada 2 doors and the one I looked into still had the console. I didn't check them all. There were all colors, even a white 73 like my Comet. I asked about Bobcats and he said he might have one left deeper in the sticks. Overall I am pleased. He sells whole cars for $200 each. This means I will soon own a 69.5 stick shift with a black interior. That means I get the column I lust for and a cool dash starter plus the neat looking sill plates and spare side glass. I tried to take pictures but my camera SUCKED and I only got a couple of decent shots.
Yep buy them ALL! Make your inital cost back by selling small bumper parts/grabber hoods, strip them down to the bare bones (rolling shell) then sell the hulls for at least $100 each for scrap (I just sold a STRIPPED 4dr for $100 no motor/trans, spindles, windows, interior, and trunklid) Keep what you want and then sell the rest.
I am stoked. Imma go back and check for more good stuff. The Grabbers both were whacked in the tail so the spoilers(what was left of them) were ruined. Plenty of good bits and pieces though. I really should have taken better pictures but the camera is the one I use at work, I'll take the Canon next time.
If the Granada console has a floor shifter, I'd like to have the whole console or at least the plate and stuff for the floor shifter.
I saw at least three 2 dr Granadas. Two had what looked like louvers on the side windows like this> // (year?). I'll check for floor auto consoles when I go back. I was really impressed with the number of late 60s LTDs and Galaxies he had. Must've been 60 of them.
We have one out here near Houston...see http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=23245&highlight=Daley&page=5 where Rick Book went to a semi-local yard. Huge yard with at least 7 mavericks in it. Many other cars, most much older than our mavs... But, most of the mavs are stripped of their "good" parts....
man you are lucky....i dont know any yard with old car near me... Picture...more picture!!! P.S Look like there is only 60's car...is there any 80's one in the lot?
The blue Grabber has the passenger extension and half a deck spoiler left. The orange one is missing it all. I can replace my column with the 69.5 column right? I really want to be rid of the useless shift lever and I want the uber sweet dash start. I can rekey it to use my keys by switching pins I hope. There is a white 4 door in his front yard that he says is there because it ran out of gas. Upon further searching the Interweb it seems the 78-80 Granadas had the windows like I mentioned> // behind the doors. They should be good for getting discs off of. I will be taking a booster off of a late Maverick that has no spindles. I need the shock tower brace too I assume. I love it. I have been jealous of the members here who have spare parts and can get parts from local yards. You just need to keep searching I suppose, they're out there.
If you want to convert to Maverick type power brakes, you need the whole pedal assembly, as well as everything between it and the booster. And yes, the shock tower brace too.
That should be no problem I guess. Only thing would be the snakes spiders and wasps that NC cars tend to have when they sit.
