It's getting down to the small things now, hooking up wires and checking them, running hoses and wires, hunting places to hook up stuff, all the little time consuming things you want to do right the first time. Outside things have kept me from getting much done lately, and with the way the money has been lately, I haven't been able to accomplish much. Had to buy a battery for my pickup yesterday, the old one wasn't all the way gone, but was getting weak, so I went ahead and got a new one and saved the old one to test my electrical on the Mav. Got the solenoid wired right, motor turns easily. Sounds like it will be toting a good lick, just turning it over without any spark or fuel. Traced out the coil hot wire, got it hooked up, have spark to the points now. Tried the lights, have tails and turns, but no headlights. May be the dimmer switch is bad, have to check it later....Still have got to get a bottom rad hose and the heater hoses, and some anti freeze, and get the fuel pump put on and plumbed, and maybe then I can hear this baby vibrate the neighborhood's windows with the open headers! Oh yeah, that's something else I've got to do, get an exhaust system welded up. Well, little by little, it's coming together!
sounds neat. as long as progress is being made, that's all that matters. every little bit is closer to the end.
"Little by little", the time goes by... Keep at it and don't let other distractions stop you for too long...
sounds like you are getting there... maybe we will get to see it at the Christmas party...:Handshake note ( i run my motors in on straight water) if anything leaks, nothing wasted. it also lets you flush the system of anything in it. BFF......
I doubt I make it this year, Frank. Only been getting to work 3-4 days a week, and just barely paying the bills on that little bit. I'm hoping to make it back over in the spring or summer, if I can get it driveable and get the trailer built.
Rick, I'd say I'm about halfway. Getting it running and driving is half the work, then comes the body and paint and the interior. Most of the nickel and dime stuff has been done, now the to do list gets a little more costly with each item.....just takes a little longer to save up for the next step.
I took advantage of the warm 70 degree temps yesterday and today and got up and personal with the steering in the Mav. Couldn't get the pittman arm to come off, so I decided to just swap for the manual box I had. Wish I had done this before I put the engine in! PITA! After taking the master cyl back off, I realized the steering box wasn't going to come out the top like I though, so...off comes the header. Then once the power box was off, I couldn't get the bolts to line up on the manual box. As somebody said, I had to wiggle it a little and cuss a lot, but finally it all went back together. After I got all the steering linkage and the header back on, I lowered the car back down off of the jack stands for the first time since I changed to the Granada disc spindles. Damn! Now the tires, 225/70/15, just scrub on the lip at the watershield. Don't know if I can just try to flatten the lip or just hunt some smaller diameter tires. I had plenty of clearance with the drum spindles, and I can't figure out why it sits lower now, oh well, it's always something!
And now it's off to the rear.... got to put in the driveshaft, replace the rubber brake line, mount and wire and plumb the fuel pump, and let those mickey mouse shackles down to the bottom hole. New springs and factory shackles are on the wish list for next year....
I had to do the same thing. I got the 215's from Summit, BFG TA radials, 215x60x15. Now I have lots of room to spare, and the car steers easier also.
