I knew it would only be a matter of time before my dad got another old car. We just went and picked up this '71 Torino: http://atlanta.craigslist.org/car/525313897.html

This car is so original, it's just ridiculous. Other then the wheels and exhaust, nothing has been touched on this car. All the original grease marks are still there, all the little factory decals here and there, original California plates are in the trunk (has a 71 Los Angeles DSO), guy we bought it from moved here two years ago from California, he bought the car from the estate of the original owner, the proverbial "little old lady". Not a speck of rust anywhere on the car, the front strut rods still have the factory tags hanging off of them. The paint and interior you see is what it rolled off the lot in 1971 with. Original wheels and hub caps came with the car in addition to the wheels that's on it. A/C, P/S, power disc brakes, AM radio, everything works just like it should. Has a 351C with Flow Masters on it, sounds great..

Gave $3,100 for it, I drove it home. Cruised 70 mph down the interstate no problem.

Don't know how long the Craigs List add will stay up, but I'll take pics of the car and post tomorrow.

Yea, that's one of the hub caps. Not sure what's up with that, does look like it's standing in mid air, lol.

Went out to get the codes off the door tag. Noticed a decal inside the door from an oil change place, dated 11/30/1990, apparently the last time the original owner had the oil changed. Mileage: 93,716. It rolled over 97,000 when I was driving it home down I-85 tonight.

Tried to decode it best I could, here is what I came up with:

    V.I.N.: 1A30H106091 1971 model, built in Atlanta, GA (cool!), Torino 500 Formal Hardtop, 351C 2V, 6,091st produced.

    Trim: JR (Medium Green)
    Body: 65C
    Color: P (Medium Green Metalic)
    Axel: 6 (9 inch, 3.00:1)
    Trans: W (Cruise-O-Matic) C4?

    Wikipedia had this to say:

"The Torino line-up consisted of 14 models. The base model was now the "Torino", available as a 2-door hardtop, 4-door sedan and 4-door station wagon. Next was the mid-level "Torino 500" (also the rarest), was available as a 2-door hardtop and SportsRoof, 4-door sedan and hardtop and a 4-dr station wagon."

Looks to be a pretty good car to find in all original shape like that. It's the same color as my '72 was from the factory, I've always wondered what that color looked like.

the phrase 'cruise-o-matic' was first used with mustangs that featured C4 transmissions. they prolly had many variations of it over the years but for a 351C car, i would say you're right with a FMX but may also have a C6. I'd just check the pan to find out for sure. post some pics :thumbs2:
