i had once considerd converting my maverick over to manual stearing from power stearing. is manual harder to stear.
Scott did a great job with the numbers. There are other threads on it too. I have all three configurations. I have p/s cars (we all know what they're like). I have full manual steering cars. I also have one car that has been converted to manual with a p/s gearbox. The manual conversion with a p/s gearbox is hard turning in town. It's running near stock size tires on aluminum wheels - I think they're 195/75/14s if I remember right. It's nice on the highway, but it's almost too much in town. On my '73 I converted it to full manual and rebuilt the box in the process. It's got a fresh manual box and I'm running 15" skinnies (VW tires). It's a breeze to drive.
I have manuel with p/s gear box. Kinda hard to turn but i don't mind it. I spent all the money to buy new p/s set up, drove it about 10 miles and took it all off. Just too many things under the car for me. I like a clean un cluttered look. JMO
I just did the conversion recently. I have manual with PS gearbox. We will have to see if it's really all that bad. Helps keep the guns tuned up.
I have manual steer with a p/s box, I like it, not much worse than the manual box, I have no problem driving at all, little much when I parallel park though, makes your arms strong
Several of you have said that. There is a BIG difference between my cars that have the manual or automatic box. I wonder if it's the difference in tires size and a fresh rebuild over and original box.
I'm running 195/70/14s, I think, but I have a 15" steering wheel on the car, which helps, guess I should have mentioned that. I had Manual steering, swapped in P/S, which was a dumb idea, and when back to manual, but retained the p/s box, I don't find it any worse now, than it originally was
