Time to get-r-dun. Got everything stripped off. Filled a few holes today and got most of the old epoxy primer scuffed down. About $300 worth of new rubber came from Auto Krafters on Friday.

So someone explain what Auto Krafters is doing...I noticed Auto Krafters starting bids for Maverick rubber through E-bay was a good bit less than their catalog. I bid on 1 item and ended winning at the starting bid. When I received the e-bay invoice from Auto Krafters it had a link back to their online store. All the prices there were the same as the starting bids on E-bay. So....I loaded the cart. Most of it was $5-$15 less per item than their catalog. I guess all you have to do is win one auction to get the discounted price AND combined shipping? I didn't go back and count everything up but I am guessing my order was $75 less than catalog. The best deal there was new chrome door handles with mounting pads for $19.95. I hope the chrome doesn't wash off.

Cleaver; I've had their door handles on my car for about 7yrs. Chrome is still there, and still shiney! Sounds like you found the secret to a good deal. Good to know!

Got the second round of high build primer and guide coat on today. I hope this does it. I'm fast approaching my tolerance for sanding. Thinking about "jambing" it and putting the fenders back on and having a local shop finish the top coat in their booth. My "barn" paint jobs look great on work trucks that get washed twice a year. I really don't want to wet sand and buff a bunch of trash out of it.

cleaver unless you are wanting to spend a lot of money you will not get a nice paint job. nowadays you get a paint job that will last about 2-3 years even if you take good care of it. put that paint on there like you own that car and you will have enough paint to be able to buff the scratchies out without going down to the metal plus being able to tell people that you did it yourself. lots of satisfaction also.

Sanding is definitely an evil necessity. But it is one factor that can make or break a paint job.

I'm going for a medium to light silver with a semigloss black grabber stripe (not over wheelarches) and a semigloss black hood.

Yea, there is a lot to be said there. I might be trying to justify lazy.. We'll see how things are going when it gets sealed.
