I sold this 1972 Grabber back in 1999 before my son was born ... needed the $$$$ ... This is the video I sent to the buyer. My son thinks it's funny because I have had 2 yellow Mavericks ... and sold both of them to a guy in Texas! When I restored my 1971 Grabber that I have now ... my goal was to make it as nice or hopefully nicer than the 1972 car I sold .... The 72 was a nicely optioned car from the factory. 302/V8 / C4 with Floor Shift / A/C and Bucket Seats - previous owner converted it to a 4-speed. The previous owner had restored the car from a Rust-Bucket ... It had new floors and new trunk welded in. The Grabber Hood, Fenders, doors skins and 1/4 panels were ALL replaced with NOS parts ... the guy who restored it worked for Ford and got all the parts before they were obsolete .. it was restored back in the 80's. Also replaced was the trunk floor where the shocks since both shocks had rusted through the floor at the upper mount. WHen I bought the car he showed me pics of the restoration ... and I would have junked the car without a second thought. But after seeing the car after the restoration ... I bought it. If I remember correctly I bought the car in 1993 time frame. It was Burgundy when I got it and I had it painted Yellow when I moved to Georgia in 1995. That was the original upholstery in that car .... and has the one thing that I have not yet been able to locate .. the factory Am/FM Radio ... You'll hear me mention Chuck a couple of times ... that's Chuck Stalnaker .. got parts from him back in the days before internet when we talked via mail and telephone ....
I never met the buyer .. and have no record of what is name is. He had a hauling company pick up the car and bring it back to Texas. I have never seen a picture of this car anywhere on the internet ... and obviously never on Maverick.to.
Beauty of a car, Dan. I hope it still exists. <-- One of two guys from Texas who bought a yellow Maverick from you
Was that a custom roll bar? It looks like it. That is much more modified than I would have guessed from other pics that I have seen, roll bar, deep oil pan..... Seth
i agree. given Dan's current Grabber, i would have expected something alot less modified and more 'stock appearing' like his current car is. but never-the-less, it's an awesome car
I bought the car with all those mods on it .... The only thing I did was take it apart ... have it painted yellow ... and then put it back together ... just like I did with my red Grabber. The same guy painted it who painted my red Grabber. It had a built motor in it when I bought it ... but it started burning oil .. so I put a stock 302 in it. As show in the video .. It had Global West tubular front suspension, 9" Rear, Subframe Connectors and that custom Chrome plated roll-bar. Hard to see it but the entire bottom of the car was painted Gloss black ... including the Gas Tank ... The front discs were a Custom conversion Kit. Also had the Mallory Electronic Ignition. If you notice the door sticker ... Color originally was 2B .. Bright Red .. also just like my current Grabber.
You repeat yourself alot in that first post You must like Chuck a lot. I like the Grabber you have now better
I believe I still have the ad for that car, I clipped it out and saved it. I remember it ssaying something like the nicest one around, all NOS sheet metal.....price was 7500.00 I think
LOL ... I did an edit and added that sentence in about Chuck ... then I didn't see it so I added it again ... Chuck was the Maverick Guru back then ... never heard of Craig Selvey at the time ... and there was no eBay for parts. The only place to get Maverick stuff was from Chuck or Hemmings ...
