Just obtained (not shipped yet) a 1973 Merc., Comet 302. Never did a Comet before, so just wondering best site for parts, e.g. striping, hoods, fiberglass replacement parts etc. May want to make this a GT Clone. Also may want to replace the halo vinyl top, so any tips on that would be appreciated. Also, any "watch out for" on the car itself, or the 302, thanks.

Some great Mav. and Comets. Columbus Comet is absolutely beautiful. The "73" I am waiting for is a daily driver, and I will be driving it while I work on it. For those of you like me, that pick up these classics, and drive and work on them, you know that the complete restrorations are difficult. I know that to make a ride look, well like the Columbus Comet, you really should bring her in, take her down to the frame, and do everything over. But, I usually "DA" my cars, put them in primer, work on the drive train, and go around to the shows and swap meets....if they work out and I like them, winter time I may do extras. But, keep the photos and replies coming, you guys and girls are giving me some great ideas., Thanks. JPL/Canfield, Ohio.

    Welcome!

They already mentioned Joe making many body and structural parts...
Also look at Crites Restorations for fiberglass as well as some swap headers.
Auto Krafters are a source for many misc parts like rubber and small interior/trim parts. Gotta be careful though, Auto Krafters has the first line on some stuff, but they also buy, then resell some other stuff.
Shopping around and checking out this site will let you know the best 'first person' source for parts, while keeping you informed on the folks that will resell you parts at a big markup.

    Congrats on the Comet!
    Dave

UPDATE! Just recieved an email from the shipper, stated that the estimated delivery date for the 1973 Comet is March 6, 2008. No hurry on this end, with the recent two day snow storm, hate to fire up the heater in the back work shop....but when I recieve it, I will post pictures...hopefully the "before" and "after" photos., thanks for all the replies, tips, web sites, and photos...keep the photos coming, giving me some great ideas. Later. JPL

Truly appreciate all the replies., some great pics, and some great ideas. Not sure what I may do to this "73" Comet. Keep it original? Make it a GT Clone? Go crazy on her? who knows. I do want to say though, although I tend to work on Fords (last project was a "64" Galaxie, 390, I am a "car nut" and like them all. Matter of fact....this may get ugly, may just post the picture of "78", Z-28, Pro Street my son-n-law and I built...wow, on a Maverick-Comet site....oh well. Stay tune for the Comet re-birth....Shipper said I should get it right around March 6, we will see. Crazy snow in my area, set a record for February...but hey, it's March, I think. Keep the replies coming and tips. Oh, one more thing, any good Comet publications, mags out there?
