    alright i gotta question...

is there any ryhme or reason for clear turn signals in the grill with cross hair?

i can seam it see a pattern , my 75 has them, but i dont think its an LDO car, it had a halo vinyl top, but thats about it, no real fancy trim, just wheel lip chrome, but i dont know if that was factory.

and today me and killercomet was in a junkyard and found a 75 very similar to mine with clear turns with crosshair...

whats with it? ive seen yellow turns no cross hairs, yellow turns with cross hairs, but very few clear with cross hair

off hand what did the grabbers come with for sport lamps? where they clear with amber bulb?

    any ideas?

You sure they were always amber? Mine are clear with clear bulbs, and they are not turn signals at all. Small bumper cars had turn signals in the valance area, and the "sport lights" are more what we'd call a "fog" or "driving" light, although they're not really useful for that... I use 'em when it's dim, rainy or foggy outside so I don't blind people with the headlights. They help others see me, but of course they don't help me see squat.

(Of course, there is the obvious possibility that I'm supposed to have amber bulbs...)

I would not call these "clear". These are what I wlould call frosted.

Frosted is probably a good term.
I have always called them clear and amber, with the sportlamps being a totally different animal of course.

Clear frosted and amber frosted is probably a good way to say it.

    Back on topic:

My 75 with halo top came with clear frosted and amber bulbs. Crosshairs too.
    I think the non-crosshairs came in 76 or 77.

I have also seen clear and amber glass sportlamps.
They only came on Grabbers or LDOs until 72.
In 73 the turn signals went into the grille and sportlamps were gone.

Sportlamps are nice, but don' really do anything.
They are just a neat nick-nack.
They are way too dim for driving lights, and too high up for fog lights.

The grill in mine was from a 71, clear lenses with amber bulbs and crosshairs. They were Sportlamps but the sockets had all the wires needed to make them into turn signals and have 1157 bulbs. I got rid of the turn signals under the bumpers and split the wires coming out of the Sportlamps to provide running lamps and turn signals.

Weird. Exact opposite of mine. Now, did someone change the wiring on one of our cars, is it an assembly plant thing, or did Ford just wire these lights up all kinda random ways in the early years of the Maverick?
