If I remember right, it would just be a longer belt. I personaly would take a grinder to that bracket if I didn't have PS. This is the famous Eddie Maverick thread Frank . Who cares if he thinks he's still new.
LOL I guess you are right Frank. I just figured I'd continue to post here to keep a running dialog for myself, so as to not take up space in the general forum when I wanted to update my progress. It would be cool if we had a project section on the site so someone could do that outside of the general forum or new members section. Good to hear from you over here though Blugene- Yeah, I'm seriously considering cutting it off. (the bracket that is)
Yeah thats probably the best approach. Me & my buddy want to make a cool block off plate for it, maybe with a ford logo on it just in case I ever want to go back to PS.
It's in!!!!!! Got the engine and transmission in last night. Finished up around 2am. I still have to figure out what to do with the bracket that comes off the steering box on the drivers side. It's in the way of me being able to bolt that header all the way up. Overall it was a smooth install until it came to the headers. Here are a couple pics of it in there. I spent all day today healing myself so I didn't make much progress on that bracket. I hope I can find out if I can just unbolt it, but I don't wanna try that and find out that is hooked to the steering box. I may just have to beat the hell from it and try to bend it down
A picture of the offending bracket would really help here ... Is it the extra piece shown in this picture below? I took the power steering off of my car 10 years ago, and knew that bracket had something to do with that system, but memory fades as far as exactly where it went. Short answer ... if it looks like that, take it off. You won't need it without power steering. PS... clean looking engine. Keep up the nice work.
Well it's been a few weeks of getting things sorted out, working, and being sick off and on for the last two weeks. I've been making progress though. I got a new radiator after my original one split a seam on me during my cam break in (video of running motor will be up soon) It sounds GOOOD!! Here are a couple of pics of the radiator installed. I will probably go with a different upper bracket idea later on, but I had these and they are ford parts so I used them for the time being. Still have to sort out my lower radiator hose but I should have that done tomorrow, refilled with coolant and running so I can take some video. I still have pretty good space for my E-fan to be mounted and hooked up. That'll be done this next week. I'm getting closer and closer to being able to drive it now. I can't wait!!!!
Nice!!! can't wait to see this video i never get tired of a v8 rumble it makes nice music! I haven't touched my car in days too! i've been sick "cold" this New England Weather one day is warm the other is cold but at least summer is soon to come! Good Job!!
Here is a quick vid of it running I'll get a better one up soon. http://s164.photobucket.com/albums/u25/whlnwgn/Maverick/Maverick 2/?action=view¤t=100_3632.flv
Sounds good Eddie, always a great feeling to fire an engine up the first time almost as exciting as the wife giving birth and hearing the baby cry for the first time, wont be long now.
Thanks Mike! It does feel good, I've had it running for a week or so now, breaking the cam in etc... Getting real close now , I can't wait.
Had a minor setback. Last week when I was getting the engine broke in I found that I had a pretty bad leak coming from the transmission. I got it out this evening to find that the guy that installed the front seal (not the pump seal) had done a piss poor job installing it and actually dimpled it on install. So as the tranny built pressure it pissed outta that spot something fierce. So I'm off to get all new seals tomorrow (front, rear, and pan gasket) and doing a fresh install, as removing the transmission in a headered maverick requires you to remove the passenger side header, which I don't like doing anymore Just a little update.
Hey, That happens!!! could be worse. now about the left side headder i know that's a pain in the .....
