here's a shot of my kick panels that i dyed just a couple months ago. i managed to find two good speaker grilles from a Jeep Wagoneer in black for a $1 at the local junk yard. i think they turned out great
Nice! I have found those grilles all over the place around here... However every one I find is dry rotted! They all crumble as I take them out, or shortly thereafter. The same exact grilles come in 70s full size Fords and Mercs too.
Great job! Did you have to do any texturing? Mine are pretty "bald" and in need of texture and dye. Russ
i didnt have to do any texturing. my panels were in pretty good shape to start with, just brown in color. the coloring never chipped or anythingduring sutting i have included a picture. just be sure to clean the surface the best you can and it turns out great. like i mentioned, i cut on these panels and everything and the color remained perfect. it bonded well to the plastic
Thats what I've been saying for some time now. They fit perfect and the look goes right along with the interior. http://mmb.maverick.to/showpost.php?p=408889&postcount=8
Yeah. That was a good call. I have been pulling them from mid-70s FoMoCo cars and from the Jeeps, and I can tell you they had to be made by the same folks. The grilles are identical in every way. It makes sense though, if you look at the Jeeps from the late-70s, into the 80s, they are full of GM, Ford, and Mopar parts. It's like AMC contracted everyone and anyone to make them parts to incorporate into their cars. Like I said though, for some reason these parts turn VERY brittle over time. Heat and sun may be the key problems, seeing as how down here in Florida they are hard to find well preserved.
speaker grilles looks great, I would like to do that my self but I don't know what speakers would fit In there. I have some rockford fosgate 6x9s In the rear deck but need to find good sounding thin mounts for the front, tight space If anyone knows of any let me know thanks.
IIRC the stock kick panel speakers were 4" to 4.25"... or close. What you see in the pic up there is what Maverick kick panels look like from the factory when equipped with kick panel speakers! The kick panels even have an outline on the back side of where the grille goes!
