    Well, here I am again...

Going from park to Drive makes my car fly away, almost ran down my garage yesterday (now it´s a little crooked), I´m actually glad it´s not that well built (the garage)to begin with :bouncy:, same thing when putting it in reverse, it runs away from me, I have to like put both my feet on the brakes every time I shift gears, Is this how it´s supposed to be (I know stupid question) because almost every single car in Sweden is stick shift so this is new to me...

I´m just afraid that it´s breaking down or something...:(

    Anyone know where to start..?

    Thanks a lot!!!!

    Robert.

Sounds like the idle is way too high.

Nope have not got round to the brakes yet, just posted my two main problems on the forum here today, I´ll buy me a couple of jackstands this weekend and inspect the brakes, I feel so stupid with my carb issues, been reading and trying and posting and trying but I just can´t seem to get the idle right... I´m too stupid for my comet...

Thank you very much for the help I´ll try again and again!!!!

Your symptoms sound like your idle is way high and you have a brake problem.
Fix the idle first and then the brakes, but I wouldn't drive it until both were done.

    Paul or anyone out there...?

I know we been over this again and again, and that you must be kind of tired of the same questions again and again, you helped me with my carb issues last year, I still got it all printed out and trying over and over again, but I still can´t understand what I´m doing wrong and if there is something else to try out...

    New carb Carter RBS 1bbl
Every single vaccum line changed for new ones or plugged
    New pcv valve
Choke opening/closing just as it should
    No bindings or sticking

Stalls and stutters when in Park/Neutral but at least some kind of idle
When in drive/reverse it´s like a wild horse just wanting to race away but no idle at all, dies the minute I let go of the gas.

Do you have any clues, because I´m starting to fell beaten by this, was supposed to go to the shop today, but it´s too far away to get there in one piece...

Old questions asked over and over again, I know...

    Any clues....?

By these two quotes, it sounds like you have always driven stick shift cars. With an automatic, when pulling it into a gear, you should have the motor idling ... no foot on the gas pedal. If you are revving it to keep it running and yank it into gear, the car will jump. Do it from a high enough engine speed, you start breaking things.

Once you get the idling sorted out this all ought to be OK.

It sounds like you have a big vacuum leak.

I suspect that the six cylinders came with an EGR plate under the carb. ( I have always had V8s). I would pull the carb and the plate and have a good look at that. Make sure it is nice and flat and gets a new gasket.

I had an EGR plate on one motor rust out (!?!! :slap::hmmm: very weird!!!) and start leaking, and it ran horribly when cold. It ran well enough when warm, and this took a while for me to track down.

And like others have said ... fix the brakes first please.

A car that doesn't run is inconvenient. A car that doesn't stop is dangerous.

When the car is idling in park, put your right foot on the brake and hold it hard. Pull the shift lever into reverse or drive without touching the gas pedal. Once it is in gear take your foot off the brake and let the car move whle you slowly press down on the gas pedal. when you want to stop release the gas pedal slowly and pres on the brake. You should never be pressing on the gas pedal and the brake at the same time. You should never have your foot on the gas pedal before the car is in the gear that you want. You put it in gear and then move your right foot from the brake to the gas,

your idle should be about 650rpms. if it is too high, it will try and drive away on you.

    Yes yes yes....

Idling good (made some adjustments to the fast idle), doesn´t race away at all on me(well at least not more than I want it to:burnout:did the Paul S adjustments to the carb) good rpm... Even shifts into gears smooth now, I´m starting to wonder what has happened or what I´ve done..?

    Thank you all so much!!!!

    Now the brakes...

And don´t worry, I´m not driving it on any open road or among people, just up and down and back an forth)

Could not have done this without you!!!!!!
