Just thought I'd put this out there... my mechanic and I have been scrounging for an old, rebuilt, or repro gas tank for my rusty 72 Maverick 4-door. So far no luck. Any thoughts?
freefli I just replaced one in a 77 2dr maverick with a 19.2 gal one from a 76-78 Granada/exact replacement. $53.50 junkyard price sure beat $120.00 plus advance auto price.good luck and happy hunting.
People keep telling me that a 75-77 tank isn't compatible with my 72, so I hesitate to lay out the $150 or so to find out if they're right. Will ask around about the Granada tank as a substitute. Thanks.
The Granada tank is the same as the 75-77 Maverick tank, here is a link to the guys that make them. http://www.gastanks.com/prodinfo.asp?number=F-30
Got that, but what'll it take to make that tank fit my '72? Is it just a matter of longer straps, as Frank said?
Be aware of doing any dealings with "mattmeier" a novice member. of this board. I bought a tank from him, yet he fails to give a status report. Not a good way of doing business
The longer straps make it easier, but when I bought my 73 it already have the 75 tank on it, and they used the 73 straps, just with longer bolts.
i have a 71 tank i would sell if you are interested. came out of a 4 door . you just need to replace the filler pipe. tank is rust free. had it on my 71 that burned up.send me a p.m. if interested.
tanks i bought a new f-30 model number from the parts store. you need the longer straps that go with it. its made for a 76 but it fits right up. the sending unit can be replaced but i used the old one. you dont reall know whats going on with the first 4 gallons but after that it works fine. the only thing is if you buy new you cant get a new vent for the tank, however take the old vent and modify it. there are three nubs grind those down and weld it right on.
squito - Thanks. Actually located a tank from a 71 from another forum member. Due to arrive any day now. -Charlie
Quick update... my 72 is up and running after receiving her replacement tank (thanks Jason), sending unit, (courtesy of eBay), and carb & choke linkage. Had her out today for a run in the sun.
