    I need a good pic of one so I know what Im looking for. I have a few Stant replacments but we are looking for the original for Micheles Comet.

    Mean Mav's pic is correct for '71-'73 Comets. Spork and Gene's pics would be for '74-'77.
    Mean Mav's is the deluxe cap. The standard early cap is not chrome, it looks like lightly buffed aluminum and is flatter like the later cap.

    Try it.

    I have a '75-'77 filler neck with the early cap. It should fit.

    ive been wondering whats up with the cap on my '76 comet. it looks like there must have been some kind of emblem on it that got lost over the years

    Thats what the cap in the trunk of her car looks like. Its missing something

    mine could be a later aftermarket replacment as well. it is still really shiney. but the actual shape of it and the grips on the side are identical to my 76 mavericks. i just assumes aftermarkt suppliers wouldnt pay that much attention to detail. i never did bother to see if it had any ford part numbers on it

    There was a foil decal in the center that said either Maverick or Comet. I have one just like that I peeled the emblem off of. I plan on getting some of the steerhead emblems from Craig and putting one on mine. Somebody was selling the Comet decals , too, just don't remember who right now.

    I have Mercury crest emblems like the ones under my username. They are center cap sized-wheels, steering wheels, not gas cap size.

    Killer-that pic os of the base cap, early or later I guess. Mostly earlier cars have them.
