My wife will ride in it occasionally to a cruise or something, but doesn't really like to because she says it smells funny. She has no desire to drive it. Having said that, she knows it's a hobby of mine and encourages me to enjoy it even if she doesn't, so I can't complain.

Well, since I bought "my" Maverick for her, it really wouldnt be right of me to tell her she cant drive it! While it does not have power steering (yet she still wanted a smaller steering wheel and declined on a power steering conversion), or brakes (not an issue.), it does have a spool rear and a [difficult for dainty hands] ratchet shifter, and dark tinted windows (poor visibility at night). Its not a daily driver, and it clearly isn't as user friendly. She understands that it is a driving experiance. Sure, I do all of the work, and drive it more (and faster) than she does, but I like being a passenger with her driving too. While she isn't into cars like I am, she has loved Mavericks for over 20 years.

And even though I have encouraged her to drive my 'cuda, she will not. The sheer volume of it attracts so much attention, she is intimidated. While she had a manual shift in one of her Mavs, the Plymouths big block/ heavy clutch pressure makes her nervous. I dont know why. It only makes me happy!:)

I havent heard any good reasons to deny a spouse. If she wants to drive it, its a shared intrest, thats a blessing in my book. Teenage kids is another story...

Did I mention that I completely totalled my wifes last Maverick (that she loved)? I am surprised she lets me drive this one! :rofl2:

My wife has driven mine a few times but she doesn't really enjoy it all that much.I pulled the drivetrain out of her Capri RS and put it in the Comet and told her it would be the same, well not quite. So i'm in the process of putting together another Capri RS for her and she made it real clear that it has to be a 5 speed. What can i say thats why i married her She knows how to work a stick!!!

My wife has driven mine but I think once was enough. It is tough for her to drive because the seat won't go far enough forward for her (bucket seats, wrong tracks), manual steering, smaller Grant wheel, and manual disc brakes. I had her put her foot in the carb and that was enough. She handed me back the keys shortly afterwards.

She was really upset when she couldn't ride shotgun the last time I went bracket racing. She signed the release but they never gave her the plastic bracelet. Made for a very funny video tape ... she gets kicked out of the car, camera running, pointing at the ground, while she stomped away, cussing out the track official under her breath. It was only when I launched that she remembered that she had the video camera, and filmed me turning into a speck in the distance.

I thought everyone did. We are in the same boat. I have mine, she has hers, & we have ours. She has no problem driving my Comet. She loves the looks & comments. All the rest of our Mavericks are stock 6 cyl....

She refuses to drive it but will move it if she has to get her explorer out of the drive way and that is only when I am deployed. She says she wants to drive when I get the toploader in it though:huh:

My wife has a 79 T/A with 60,000 original miles on it so she drives that most of the time but she has driven my Mav a few times.

I keep trying to buy my wife a Maverick, but she just doesn't want one, although for some reason I think she's claimed my green one for herself, she's really getting fussy about all the details, like the A/C, I told her I would finish that next year, and she said she wanted it this year.

My wife has driven the Comet some, she doesn't like the over boosted power steering and the four wheel drums suck compared to the 4 wheel antilock discs on her Freestyle. But the 3 spd column shifted '75,well she'll drive it any chance she gets. She likes the heavier manual steering and the column shift is kinda neat to her(she learned how to drive on her brothers old '69 F100 3spd and his old Scout)but she doesn't care for the drum brakes on it either.Guess I need to get discs on both of 'em.

My girlfriend is slightly afraid of driving my '71, so she hasn't.

My wife used to drive mine back in the eighties back and forth to work ,she worked second shift at a Shoney`s . One Friday night on her way home a guy in a Hot rod Chevy II picked a race with her to show off for his girl friend...I think he assumed that she wouldn`t do anything when he revved up and left the light smoking tires.
My wife said "I don`t think so Buddy" and promptly out ran him!
At the next light the guy wouldn`t even look over at my wife,he just stared straight ahead looking ticked off...his girl friend was looking down at her feet and Laughing!

My wife won`t drive my car at all now because she can`t see around the tunnel ram. Besides...now she has a Hot Rod of her own...
