Ah ha! You just wanna do the fun part, eh? I'll do your body work for you if'n you'll teach me how to paint flames!

I learned how to do bodywork myself because most bodyshops won't work on our older cars anymore. If they can't get paid by overcharging the insurance company they aren't interested in doing the job. And just like on the mechanical side of things, many shops just want to replace the panel instead of repairing the existing one. That works for newer models, but not really for our cars.

heh, and while im at it; ill continue with the function over fashion theme and throw on some big rubber mud flaps and a few cb antennas!

Sam, im also a south jersey guy, though im probably a little more north than you. i live like 5-miles outside of philly, but nj is so small it only takes maybe a half hour to get to delaware.

hitting that pole may have been a blessing in disguise, the previous owner patched the passenger side quarter fairly well but after poking around at the pole damage a bit im starting to find a good little bit of slapped on bondo. and from what i can see, some real iffy looking metal.

if you could fix it though, you would be a lifesaver. i can deal with surface rust and the like, but body work isnt really my thing and im afraid that pole may have gotten me in over my head

I'm with Sam, learn to do the body work and save yourself some money and gain another skill. Not saying my body skills are all that great...haven't done it in over 5yrs...It'l probably be harder to match that color. Where in South Jersey? I'm in Pennsauken.

pennsauken? i live in haddon twp/westmont so that means im just a town or two over, small world!

as for the color.. as much as i love it, its gotta go. the previous owner obviously did almost no prep work as it chipping and peeling all over and im starting to see some bubbles here and there. so much for it being a "new" paint job.

looks like im going flat black for now!

Westmont, yeah your right up the road from me. You go to the Silver Diner cruises on Wednesday's in Cherry Hill? Should be starting up soon.

I'm trying to find a small shop that'll rent me their booth so I can paint my 68 Cougar over a weekend but nobody seems to like that idea...insurance thing or something....

hmm, ive never really been to any cruises or car meets around here but that definitely sounds pretty cool.

im thinking of just setting up a tent in the driveway as a makeshift paint booth. not very elegant, but it should get the job done.

Some body hammers/dollys and a stud gun puller and a little bondo and she be straight. Couple hours worth of work,, be a great way to start in on learning autobody.
