I'm not sure about it. Am I being too "picky" ? Here's the pics and info. Front floors are gone, front torque boxes need repaired, rail that the steering box sits on is rough, aprons have rough areas and after looking at it a second time I found filler in the lower quarters and lower front fenders. Can be bought for around $300.00. I realize it's Ohio and things rust and I don't have the $ to buy a mint one but the torque box and frame rails are making me a little leery. What do you guys think ?
That's normal for an Ohio car. My dads 73 was in Ohio from 1973-1979. It has rust that has to be repaired. Just depends if you want it for the parts, or plan to fix the rust.
No doubt....parts car. You could always buy it and tool around in it for now.....but there is no way I would fix all that rust. Why....even with all these parts being reproduced? Because a rust free Maverick/Comet can always be bought cheaper than fixing rust on any Maverick/Comet.
Pretty much any car costs big $$$ for rust repair ... even Mustang/Camaro guys will pay the extra money for a no rust car .... even though repops are all over the place for them ...
Yes, definitely a parts car. But heck, for $300, get it and just use it to cruise around, it "looks" decent. Then part it out when you find a more solid car. I'm still amazed at how bad these cars rust up north. I've still yet to see one in person that had the torque boxes just "gone" like that.
I bought a structurely solid 2dr in NJ for 500, they are out there, but you need to keep an eye out. I would buy that car, but for parts only
