refinishing rear dash...

    I removed the rear dash board from the Maverick tonight. The former owner spilled something on the surface (glue?). I managed to sand it off, but now I'm wondering what's the best method to refinish the surface. I want something durable (just in case the kids happen to lay something back there, I don't want it to scratch easily), so I'm not sure just painting it is the best answer. Has anybody covered it with vinyl? What are your suggestions....

    Thanks for any tips you can offer....

    You can buy new ones from RPS or Auto Krapters. I was going to goto the mill store today and see what they had that I could use to cover mine with, maybe tomorrow. Some nice fun fur, leopard print or something :)

    Where did you get the vinyl, a fabric store? What's the best way to mount it, spray adhesive?

    My 73 is covered with vinyl that matches the seats. I have also used carpet that matches the carpet in the floor. I think both look good. (y)

    I'm right there with you. Mine was pretty rotten, and blew out of the car on the way home from the body shop. I have the one out of my 74, so I was going buy buy some board and either cover it, or paint it. I noticed the original one out of my 73 (whats left of it) has some graining texture to it.

    The best glue is the spray on kind. We used fabric that matched the centers on the seats (seems to be doing good?) Good Luck!

    My Maverick has carpeting on the rear dash that matches the carpeting on the floor. It's been there since I got the car. The way it was installed almost looks like it came from the factory that way, though I'm sure no Maverick had a carpeted rear dash.

    I did my tray under the dash the same way using black carpeting. It looks good and keeps things from sliding around. I plan to do my back deck with it too. :thumbs2:
