Sorry Jean...can't help you since I've never run into that problem before. I've always used Dupont and have never failed to get a blendable match. The only time we have ever had any problems is with silvers and golds but we don't even attempt to box paint them. The only way to do that car right whether the customer likes it or not is to get a new stripe kit and blend both ways. There's no way I would try to fight that one...even if the tint color was still available. Otherwise, the customer needs to accept it as is.
I agree 100% when it comes to blending the paint. Panel painting rarely ever works out right, and blending the paint on this car will be the only way to get it looking decent. I think we will be able to wear the guy down and do the job the correct way, but you know the old saying; 'The Customer Is Always Right', and for now he wants to do things his way. We may end up having to do what he wants done whether it's the wrong way or not. If we do things his way and the car looks like crap, then it still falls back on us. One way or another, we'll get the car looking as good as we can and he'll just have to live with it. I look at it this way. The more he keeps screwing around wanting to paint the door the incorrect way, the more it will end up costing him in the long run. It's his money and his car. You just can't please everyone.
Hard to win! Isn't the stripe kit around $100? Seems like he is going to waste a lot of money on materials by not taking the advise of the professionals.
Yes, I know this thread is quite old but I have reason to bring it back to life. I am building a 73 Comet GT clone and considering using the same 73 Mercury color Gold Glamour (6F) or the 78 T-bird color Medium Tan Irid. (8J). I am interested in how the gold paint eventually turned out. Has anyone else seen/painted cars this color? Thanks in advance
Wow I can't believe how old this is either. As for the above statment that the Omni are old leftover tints. That could not be any more false!! Yes the Omni line is meant for complete paint jobs. That is because they don't spend any effort in color matching at the color labs. Omni is also not a warrenteed paint line through PPG. That means you get what you pay for! I personally know the Product Manager for the Omni lines at the PPG heaquarters in Strongsville, Oh. They are working hard to improve it, but it will always be just what it is not, a low cost overall paint system.
I found this source while searching for my original paint online http://www.tcpglobal.com/autocolorlibrary/aclchip.aspx?image=1974-mercury-pg01.jpg Has anyone ever used this source?
