It shouldn't. The upper a frame pivots on a fixed axis with no adjustments. The grease fittings are right in the center of that axis.
Naaa. I havent touched the car since the end of February. Now, with my motorcycle trip a few weeks away, Carlisle a week after that, and the Roundup 6 weeks after that, plus this maverick jackpot I ran into, probably won't get to it till August. I had hoped to have it done by the end of the year but its not looking good. I wanted to drive it to the NPD show in FL in Jan.
Mav, just happen to stumble on this older thread where your vents were rusted out. You mentioned an aftermarket heating/air conditioning system. Who makes those? Jack
Nobody makes a set for the Maverick. I'm looking at Classic Auto Air's stuff. Their boxes are much smaller than the Maverick's stock non-air box. Plus they use the same 2 slider and a switch control panel so it would be easy to adapt to a stock panel. I'm going to build a console so I might just use their control panel. Haven't decided on that part yet. Only problem is the passenger side vent. You either have to plug it up or do like I did and adapt a drivers side manual vent control to it.
Mav, thanks for the information. I had a similar idea, but yours sounds better. Wow! Aren't these Mavericks fun? Especially when the vents rust out. Ha ha. Thanks again. Jack
Count your blessings on those cowl vents... Mustangs were much worse in general, and here in New England specifically. Here were the cowl hats on my 65 Mustang... they were bad....
Wow, Pachecoj, that is massive rust. I was wondering, on my previously mentioned (being stripped) 74 Maverick four door, would it be worth the trouble to drill out the welds on the cowl and save it? Is there a lot of welds on there? I have almost finished stripping this car, and even found a bonus--disk front brakes for my 72 Sprint. All have a great weekend. Jack
It might be worth saving, I don't know how hard it is to find replacement cowls for Mavericks. I don't know if they make them or what, or if people have tried the Mustang replacement cowl patches, I can't imagine they would be too hard to fit up to Maverick cowl hats. Jason
Its hard to feel sorry for ya when all you have to do is pick up a catalog and order a whole new cowl. Mustang Cowl panels are not even close to Mavericks. The top hat is ok, but that is the only part of the panel that will work.
No, I meant the cowl patch panels: http://www.mustangsunlimited.com/itemdy01.asp?T1=M136LH+01&Category=&catkey=EMUSTANG As far as the whole cowl... that wasn't available when I did mine, so I had to patch it as you see above. They are available for 65/66 mustangs now, but at $340 they're not exactly cost effective for most cases. Jason
Sorry.......but it is way to easy to buy a rust free 4-door Maverick than to try and fix one as you describe.
Well, after a 6 month hiatus from the Comet GT, I finally got some more done this weekend. I ordered a heat/ac system from Classic Auto Air. I chose their Street Rod Cooler II because it is compact and it operates by 2 cable controls and has a 3 speed fan. I figured it should hook up easily to a factory non-ac control panel. I invited Nick up because he's always full of good ideas, well he's full of something, anyway. SO anyhow, we got the system mounted. I had to flatten the firewall on the passenger side and get rid of all the factory holes. I figured it was easiest just to cut out the whole area and weld in flat metal.
After that we held the box up until we got it in the best location and drilled some holes. Found out it was best to pull it away from the firewall about 1 3/4" so I made some spacers out of 3/4" aluminum stock.
