Got "new" 35 year old high back seats. They have some fabric wear, and a bit of foam wear. I currently have them installed, but with cheap (and non-matching) seat covers.

I need suggestions for filling in the foam wear so that they will provide a year or two of support and cosmetic fix before I get a chance to have them repaired professionally.

Might try hobby lobby or a place that sells materials for some temporary foam. I think I seen foam at wal mart.

Maybe even use some that you would get for kitchen chairs and tape it down then put the covers over it all...not really sure how you could just fill the parts that are torn since it should be all one solid piece per back or seat.

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
what i did on my uncles falcon is buy mattress foam(pads they sell to go on top of your bed[its way cheaper compare to the foam they sell at hobby/fabric stores]) trim it to size then apply 3M adhesive and apply, then i put the seat cover back been working good for 2years +

dont have a before picture (used to be all wrinkled and saggy )
    but heres an after

i also made him the side vinyl panels

I have seat covers on them and they "look" good, but you can feel the bumps and lack of support.

I think you have the right idea...cover the entire area, not just filling in the holes...

I've heard of people using spray foam then trimming it to match - haven't tried it though and have no idea if it's safe or sensible.
    Food for thought.

We have a couple of places in town that makes replacement cushions for furniture thus they sell foam also. I also have a friend in the custom mattress business. You can also watch for and old chair or couch being thrown out.

Looks like they were red and have been painted black ...

Rolandag2 sold them to me. Not sure if they were originally in the car, but he has a 72 grabber, with 9" rear, pretty decked out 302, someone was apparently using it for some racing or street action. He is parting the car out and I have been asking him for about 6 months to let me have the seats and a couple other parts.

They DO appear to have once been red, and were painted black. But it doesn't appear to be paint...it doesn't flake off or scratch off. Not sure how they got the black on there, but wish I DID know, so I could use the same technology on the rest of my green plastic interior parts.

I am going to WalMart soon to look at "memory foam" to build up the seat bottoms, then put the seat covers back on for now.

Also, stopped at the local upholstery shop, they want $200 each for new foam and covering, but I think I can go into Houston and get it half that price in 'da hood...(no offense meant, but they seriously do better work for a better price there...)

Have you looked into Mustang stuff? the seat cushions should be the same...just spend the money now instead of wasting your time patching them!!

That is kinda what I am thinking...BUT, didn't think of mustang seats.

That is why they currently have $20 seat covers on them.

    COOL!

Are those items you can get anytime, or are these posted coincidentally when I need them?

I forgot...I have a John's Mustangs catalog here (I hate dealing with him, but he is local...). He has the foam for 109 each and the vinyl covers for 200 a pair, so I can drive to houston any time and have them...:thumbs2:

BRAND NEW seats for 400 bucks isn't bad:huh:
