Ok i got the 302 and AOD on the carport tonight. it was tough without a cherry picker or anything to hook a chain hoist to. it came out of a 91 pickup, not sure what model. my cousin bought the truck it came out of and i bought the motor\trans from him. he went to pick it up earlier today and said it ran good at 100. tommorow i plan to take the efi parts and the serpetine and pullys off and if i got time, clean it up with purple power. if anyone needs anything off it that i dont, let me know. im trying to get an intake on ebay, and im looking for a 4 bbl carb that dont cost too much. i got alot of work ahead of me cause this is my first rebuild and im not loaded with money. i will try to post some pics as i go, im sure ill have plenty of questions and any advice would be greatly appreciated.
sounds cool. are you swapping from a 6 cylinder? i just got done trying to get a 91 t-bird block into my car. "back dating" all the mechanics to work with my 6 cyl maverick. i did a duraspark dizzy, mech fuel pump, front sump oil pan, carb and 4bbl intaake... hopefully i'll be rolling in 2-3 weeks
im going from a I6 200, im gonna try to get everything together and install in one day when i get ready, cause this is my only car
91 pickup 5.0 will have a roller block with a flat tappet cam. It'll also have a reverse rotation timing cover, so unless you change the cover, you'll be stuck with a reverse rotation water pump. You'll need a front sump oil pan and a timing cover mounted oil dipstick too.
this morning i took the surpetine off, most of the wiring harness, and tomorrow im gonna try to get the plenum off. all i like is the star head bolt thats under it. i gotta figure out if i have the right size to fit it and then try to get to it. then ill take the rest of the wires off and cover up the holes and start scrubbing. if anyone knows which holes must be covered and which are ok that would be helpfull. i know the trottle body and intake, oil and all that but what about the exhaust and the other holes? im gonna try to post pics tomorrow
I can't help with the pictures but, I thought a particular year of crown vic had a regular rotating water pump. I'm not sure because when I did my swap I changed the timing cover to an old style with a mechanical fuel pump.
The Vic 302's always had the std rotation pumps. The Stang, Capri, pickups, vans and the Mark VII's plus the later year's T-Bird/Cougar's had the reverse pumps.
i was at a j-yard trying to get that plate off the top of the plem and they star screws were striped... i just jammed a screwdriver inder it and cracked it off lol i converted my engine to standard rotation and mechanical fuel pump. i think it will make life easier in the long run and while the engines out its easier to swap
yeah im having trouble with the one star head screw holding the upper on. i wonder why they would have like 7 or 8 regular bolts all around it and then in the one spot thats hard to get to they put a star head bolt. i got pictures of the motor now but i dont know how to post them. will i need maverick mounts or just v8 mounts? this is probably a dumb question but do all carbs fit all motors or are they motor specific? does anyone know of a site or book that would point out every part of the motor and how it all works and stuff like that? i bought a small block ford book that tells how to take it apart fix it and put it back together, but not quite all the info i was wanting.
any info, parts, or tools that might make this project any easier phisicaly or mentally would be greatly appreciated
you need the maverick v8 motor mounts and frame mounts a maverick/comet chiltons is a pretty good investment
where could i find one, website? none of the auto zones or advance around here have them or can get them cause i had already checked a while back
