"Ford has always made a ton of variations of the same part. That is why using the words "all Fords" and "Ford always" are usually incorrect  !"

yes there are it is still an 8" center section axle so you can readily get parts for it but the bearings are alot heavier duty and the overall axle is stronger on the 5 lug axles.

this thread gives the difference between the bearings of a 4 lug and a 5 lug axle. If you are really strapped for cash you can run with the 4 lug axle but it would be a very good upgrade (and highly recommended) in the near future.

It will only if both are 8" rear ends. The 8" could come with 4 or 5 lugs.

I was thining,,,, and stand back,,,, things gonna explode,, LMAO!!!

I considered the AOD, but the transmssion tunnel was the small shaped sytle,, barly had enough room for the C4,,,, will JD71's car have the small or large transmssion tunnel??? Mine beiing a 69-70 car it had the small tunnel,,, and my floor is good so I kept the C4,,,, well a cruiseomatic,,, I like that tranny,, different, but the same,,, LOL! On my old t-bird before I took the engine out,, the AOD wouldnt shift, and I couldnt get the cable adjusted right,,, It would never get out of low gear,,,,, So, one night, put the car up on jackstands,,, with an assistant,, put it in D and I went out and pulled the cable till I felt the tranny shifted into second,,, then 3rd,,, then tied the cable to be held in place,,,, it shifted crisp, and it was like clockwork on how it shifted,,, OD was right at 55, and it downshifted fine, and took off from a start like normal,,, Id say I got lucky on that cable adj,,, I sold the car wit the AOD to the local junk yard,,, and they sold the tranny,,, then I got a phone call,,, wouldnt shift,, and I knew the guy who bought it,, so I went over and redid the cable trick and he is still driving it like that,,,, he liked how it shifted,,, I dont know if thats a good thing to do or not,, but it worked,,,

No his car has the bigger tunnel and it should not have any problems with the transmission other then the mounts.
