Does any one know a quick way of identifying which flexplate you have by looking at it? Can I measure the lenth of the weight? I just bought a project that was in the middle of a I-6 to late model 5.0L swap. I got to pull the motor back out to fix something else and I want to make sure the master mechanic I got it from used the 50 oz flex plate. There was an extra 164 tooth flex plate in the car so I'm hoping I have the right one between the two of them.
If you have two flexplates, use the one with the larger counterweight. Othewr than that and the tooth count, ther's no way of Id'ing these. I've got a bunch of 164 tooth 50 oz plates, I'll measure the counterweight of em later today.
Let me know if you measure them. I don't yet know what the assembled one is. I was rummaging through my "parts warehouse" in my back yard and I found an old what I believe is a C-4, torque converter, and flex plate that me and a buddy pulled from a 1960's something small block Ford. It's diameter is the same as the 164 tooth plate that came extra with the Maverick but it has 168 teeth. Counted them twice marking increments of 10 as I went. This would have to be a 28 oz. The weight is smaller length and width than the other but a little taller, so I'm still not sure what I have.
I have a couple of 164 x 50's that have a 3/4" wide x 4.5" long weight. And another that has a 1" wide x 4" long weight. The 28's I have had a 3/4" x 3.5" weight.
