Note to everyone, I am self taught mostly in paint and bodywork. If I can do it, anyone can do it. Been doing it since 1969, but if you dont have the place to do it. You might contact the paint shops above for a quick shine.

I'm like Dan. I'm self taught. Read a lot, watched the TV shows, practiced with rattle cans. I'm not a Chip Fooze by no means, but have got to the point that I can lay down a coat without too many flaws in it. We bought some $80 auto paint off of ebay, synthetic enamel, and painted a Dodge van for our church. We sanded one day and primed that afternoon, painted color the next day. Could it have been a better job? Yes, but it is only used as a passenger pickup on weekends, so it didn't have to be perfect. I could color sand it and it would be as smooth as a show car, but it doesn't have to be. The main thing was it covered the rusty spots and kept them from growing. I didn't have a spray booth, I painted it late in the afternoon out in the yard, but you might not be able to do that, depending on the laws in your area. It looks good enough I get compliments on it all the time, and it's protected from the elements.

Wow - I wounldn't have guessed that. I think all these different opinions just prove that the quality is different between Maaco locations. I've never seen anything close to decent from our local Maaco - paint runs, lots of orange peel, and very sloppy masking is the norm. But obviously some of the other locations aren't bad.
