Well, my 72 Mav is stuck in my driveway...backed her out of the garage, put her in drive, and no forward gears work. Called a trans guy, but he's got noplace to put her till Friday, so can't tow her till then. Any thoughts? Tricks?
Double check the fluid level. Might want to also try putting it into 1st or 2nd to see if it makes a difference.
Agreed, check the fluid levels. What does it do when you put it into gear? Does it bog down a bit like it would if it went into gear, or nothing at all?
Well, backed it down the driveway (which is on a hill) and got it out to the street. Reversed to the curb, then put it in 1st and it moved forward a little but had to give it alot of gas to get it to move a few feet. It's parked now. It did bog down a bit when it went into 1st.
if it's going to the shop anyway, put another quart in and see what that does...can't hurt. ...:Handshake...
I agree... start it up, check the level, and if you have to add any to it, get it to full. If its at full already dump another quart in it... maybe the dipstick is "wrong"
Yeh, I checked the dipstick with the engine good n warmed up and the car on level ground, showed full, but I added a bit of ATF and it quickly overflowed. So definitely not low on fluid. So looks like I'm in for a rebuilt trans. Ugh.
Do you have a drain plug? If so you can drain some/all of the fluid out. How far above full is the fluid?
