whats the best way to make the connection between rubber and steel transmission line. and yes, the rubber line i have us specificly for transmissions. i looked in pepboys tonight for a fitting that can be screwed into the end of the steel trans line but has a nipple on the other end for the rubber line to fit over. the only had bress stuff (i dont know if thats a good material for this purpose or not?) but either way they didnt have the right size. and once the hose is slid over the nipple should i just throw a rubber hose clamp over it and roll? whne i go to car shows or whatever and see people with transcoolers it looks like they just slipped the rubber line over their stock steel line and clamped it down with steel hose clamps im not sure what kind of pressure im dealing with here but obviously the intention here is something that wont burst and last a while thanks
i would use a brass fitting and a hose clamp. napa has the bigest selection of brass fitings. you can slide the hose over the tube and just clamp it but its not the best method.
If you slide hose over steel line, put a slight flare on steel line, if you have a old piece of steel try your flaring to see how much flare you can go and still get your hose on line.
If you use a double flare tool - and don't finnish the flare it creates a "bulb" at the end of the line. Slide the hose on and use one or two screw on clamps. The pressure can climb as high as 70 - 80 psi which is why you should never use fuel line hose. That special hose for transmission coolers is rated at 250 psi and will work well for the purpose.
