Hi guys. The hood on my 70 Mav has seen better days, so i'm looking at getting a glass one. I've seen them for sale at autokrafters and was wondering if anyone has seen, used, installed etc, one of these hoods and what they think of them? Thanks
I would try to find out who AK sources the hoods from. They rarely, if at all, make the parts they sell. You almost always get a better price from the source. And if the source is UP, I'd think twice. Doesn't Crites have a fiber hood? They make their own stuff.
Whats wrong with unlimited products? Whats maverickmans products like. Its got to come a long way so i want it to fit right first time. Thanks
I looked at a mav with a crites hood on in looked real good except the underside of it obviously is unfinished( not smooth) it bolted to the stock hinges and latch...if i remember they are priced pretty inexpensive too Robb found it.... http://critesrestoration.com/mustang.htm go down to the bottom $320
1st comment: MaverickMan makes his hoods custom for our community, by hand. He makes the stuff for his Maverick, then if it's possible, he makes some for us here. He does it with care, not mass production. 2nd comment: You really should go to the search page here and type in "unlimited products" or "UP22.com" to find out what folks have said. It's scary stuff. 3rd comment: ALL fiberglass body parts will need bodywork and fitting. It's the nature of fiberglass and the fact that it is still curing when you get it. Some parts sources are just at one end of the extreme, or the other. You WILL spend time and money fitting fiberglass. 4th comment: (didn't know I had this many when I started) Carbon fiber holds it fit and shape much better. It is also much stronger and does not need sealing and painting right away. You can leave it natural and it looks nice. MaverickMan makes CF hoods too. I have one and it is great. It is still unpainted and fit perfect from day one. Just a thought. CF is more expensive, but when you figure the costs involved with fiberglass, even after you get it home, it's the same or better depending on who's fiberglass you chose.
thanks for the nice comments guys on my hood i couldn't have said it better myself! again, you buy a fiberglass hood it will cost you just as much or more by the time it goes on your car as if you would have just bought mine in the first place. btw i have them back in stock now too!
Out of all the FG hoods I have seen Besides MaverickMans......I'll get to that in a min It fit the nicest........but was not perfect.... Now I Own a CF cowl hood from Mr. Maverickman and it fits 95 percent perfect......I had to trim the rear side edges it.....That was it....Took me 10 minutes and then it fit almost 99 percent perfect.... I had a Grabber hood from that place in folrida and it fit like ****. No other way to put it...It could have been fixed but if you spend over 500.00 for a bolt on hood that IMO opinion is what you should get..... IMO opinion there is no other choice than Maverickmans..... I'm not payed but I expect to be.... CHA CHING I hear the ding a ling ling of store credits@MaverickMan.com
cha ching? whats that? lol! btw my grabber hood even fits better! the cowl there was reall nothing thing start off with so yeah... but the grabber one! ching!
i think we should all try and talk maverick man into getting a comet so he might start making comet hoods maverick man by day comet man by night! lol
