If it's a good scoop it won't crack. I've had mine on for years and it's gone through a lot. Granted it isn't a street car, But it has come flying off during a drag race and withstood a lot. Any fiberglass part will eventually get some stress cracks. :)

Personally, the only scoop I would put on a street car is a cowl induction hood. But that's just my opinion. :)

i was looking at maverickmans web site on his carbon fiber cowl hood scoops. I was going to get one but it was to much money for me at the time. so i guess for right now im not putting on a hood scoop...unless i find a steel one.

What are you afraid of cracking?
When you get a 'bond on' scoop, and put it on steel, you will generally get cracking from the different materials being forced to exist together. Is this what you heard and has you spooked? Cuz it's true.

However, there are bolt on fiber scoops that don't have this issue. Yes, fiber will crack if you smash it with a ball bat, but the fiber scoop itself is fine for even hard driving. Bolt on fiber scoops are what the factory used on cars, at least until ABS plasic hit the scene.

What I am trying to say is 'get a bolt on style fiber scoop'.

The factory Comet scoop, Mach 1 scoops, Boss 429 scoops, later Mustang GT scoops... ALL bolt on fiberglass scoops.

And those are only the tip of the iceberg. All the American car makers had various fiber bolt on scoops, then the aftermarket makes them too, repops and new styles.
So there are MANY scoops to choose from that bolt on.

Steel scoops are unheard of. GM cowl hoods were steel. But they were a one piece hood with a lump down the middle. Not a scoop that was put on a hood later.
Add on cowl scoops are all going to be ABS or fiber. Not steel.

    Good luck...
    Dave

I have a bolt on Mopar scoop on my 75. Been there since 1991! The scoop is currently holding up much better than the car! No cracking.

I would be bolting that down before getting a steel scoop any day.

well i have concern about it because the guy im having paint my car came and took a look at it today to tell me what i needed to do before it goes into paint. I bought up the hood scoop and he said he was 100% it would crack in about 6 months. He said he saw it time and time again on fiberglass hood scoops. It just made me a little concerned.

Like it was mentioned before. There are two kinds and he may be thinking the other. I have yet to see a bolt on one crack...

I know body men that refuse to bond fiber onto steel. Even for payment.

That'd be why all the automakers bolted fiber to their cars and none bonded on. The Grabber spoiler is the same thing... Fiber bolted onto steel from the factory.

Too bad we can't get a magnetized one. Then we could have the best of both worlds :):drive:
