I have been kicking around different ideas for my car and I had been curious about the Crites headers that have been mentioned from time to time so I sent them an email. Apparently for now, the are not making any small block headers because here is the response I got: Sorry at this time we are not making small block headers. Nor do we make a shocktower kit that car. At this time small blocks have not been on demand with us and right now the mills need us to buy 5000 ft of pipe at one time ad we don't have that many sells to move the pipe before it would rust and go bad so right now we will not be making them till we can find a mill with a less min product order. I figured I'd post this just to let anyone who was interested in these headers know.
Well, 1 less source for headers. I think most use either the DT's, Hooker's or Hedmann Headers anyway.
I didnt see this post and called Crites today as well. Needless to say I was a little annoyed. Apparently their restoration site is delayed in being updated. I hate the idea of purchasing a set of headers and using a BFH on them. I've finally got time and money to restore my 73 and now when I do this is how it starts out.
Darn... Only a few guys got these headers, and they raved about them. Figures we finally get a header that works on 351w or as a mid-tube 302 header, and they cancel it!
I am in the same boat. It doesn't sound all that promising that they will build more unless they are taking advance orders to assure they can make it worth buying the material.
I guess we will have to start a sticky thread for folks to sign on for a set of these. Then when we have enough commitments, maybe Crites will make a production run.
I just went to their website to refresh my memory as to whether these were 1 5/8 or 1 3/4 headers. The website does not indicate. Anybody know what the specs are on those.
I was thinking they were the 1 3/4 tube. I had been thinking obout getting a set too, as a matter of fact i was reading up on old header posts the other night.
The great thing about them IMO is that they fit a 302 or 351 equipped car equally well. That is unheard of in our cars due to the small engine bays. 1.75" tubes are big compared to what is available for our cars. However in the automotive world in general that is a common small to medium tube. Definately on the small side if you are working with a 351 stroker of any size. How many here could come up with the purchase price in 30 days? 60 days? 90 days? I think I could swing it within 60... We could get with Crites and do a GP.
I'd be down for that. But I'm going to rain on everyone's parade and remind you Crites needs to buy 5000ft of pipe at once. I think getting Crites to do a GB might be a "pipe dream".
