I agree, If you are not concerned with original appearance, the Sanden is free HP. Much less drag on the engine.
I call bull on this one. My 2002 International semi came with the same compressor as originally used on our cars, a York. It came from the factory with 134A, so I know it does work with it. If it had that much pressure in it, it would have blown a hose before it would have broke a valve in the compressor. It is possible it has too much oil in it, and it's possible that he overcharged it with 134A. Not telling you what to do Roz, but if it was me, I think I'd find me a new mechanic. It sounds like this knothead is trying to take you for a ride just because you are a female....
i know when i charged mine up after installing the new motor, it had too much in it. i bled off about half of what was in it and it is doing fine now.. ......ILMSC2
134 is a good refrigerant as long as the system is designed to use it. A converted R12 is not. I have a 96 Bronco, 03 F250 and an 03 E250 work van. All are 134 and all of them can freeze you out.
Ive had luck with converting R12 to R124 before, but I have also heard lots of people that haven't had good luck at all. Not sure why either
I'd agree except he isn't charging me for the replacement, so I don't see what benefit it is to him. He's just stubborn. I asked him about the oil, and he said he put in 7 oz. I read a post by you from a couple of years ago that said to put 4 oz in the small compressors; so he probably did put in too much oil, but he won't admit it. Roz
About 4 oz of oil and about 2 1/2 to 3 cans of R134A [12 oz cans] should be about right. The fact that he is stubborn is his problem, he won't admit that he screwed up. I've had to eat crowe before myself, and I don't like it too much, either! It could be that he got one of the Chinese rip off compressors that was bad from the start. A lot of the parts being sold today are foreign ripoff copies that don't last like US factory stuff does. At least he's not charging you for his mistakes!
Here's the latest Steve replaced the compressor and filled it with R12 freon. He says it's 48 degrees in the center vent. It's over 100 degrees outside today, so that sounds very good. But he says the air is leaking out of the heater and window defroster. He says the seals in the door are shot. Are replacements available from anywhere, or what else can he do? Roz
Like i said in the beggining the door seals are shot!! Yup i believe mustang companys have them! try "CLASSIC AUTO AIR" out of Florida the 71-73 mustang i believe has the same exact a/c box .....if not Pm me....i will tell you how i did mine.....just remember the whole entire a/c unit must come out of the dash for the replacement.
the seals are not that big of a deal...the main thing...make sure the ...heater control valve...is closing... ...and if you do the seals, put a new heater core in while he has the box out... ......
I agree with Frank on the heater box. If it blows 48 degree air, thats plenty good enough. I've had colder on all mine, but thats a tolerable degree
Well I picked up my Mav this afternoon. It's about 90 degrees here today. The air was colder than before, but still not as cold as I'd like. I will probably have to have the whole thing pulled and rebuilt, but I've run out of money for it this year, so I'll wait until next spring. Thanks to everyone who posted suggestions.
