Powter coating Chrome color How does the chrome color of power coating compare to re-chrome? I would like to chrome color the hood hinges and shock tower brackets on my 63 Ranchero. Rick
you can wet sand and buff powder coating just like paint.....I am sure that makes a difference.....I do not do all that and IMO, there is no comparison. Its actually closer to a nice polished aluminum.
it looks like lip stick I mixed 12 oz. of cardinal red. and 4 oz. of chrome. I already powder'ed that one chrome, but I should have tried another "coat" to see if it darkened up a little more, it is very transluscent in the sunshine with one coat. Dave, its a CHICAGO set-up from Harbor Freight.
i was thinking about buying that powder coating gun from harbor freight too. do you have to put them in the oven for it to be any good or is that optional? cause i dont have a oven big enough, actually my cooking oven dont even work now.
the heat melts the powder, which is what they call "flow"......gotta have heat. Most all powders recommend 400*. You would want an oven dedicated for powder coating only; it has an interesting odor to it My oven is 18x18x18 that also came from Harbor Freight. *also there was an "discussion" on here a while back about gas/electric.....I use electric.
