My 71 grabber paint code 3 bright red is supposed to have a black vinyl top and the comfort weave black seat inserts code 8A. I emailed fred and it will cost about $125.00 more to cover in original cloth. I'm on the fence about the top. This is what my Marti Report says.

    Black Vinyl Roof
    NOX Emission System
    Three Speed Manual
    6.45X14 Non Belted Tires
    White Walls
    Power Steering
    Floor Mounted Shifter
    AM Radio
    Deluxe Belts/Warning Light
    Tinted Glass complete
    Heavy Duty Suspension

Hi mavgrab....I'm a big fan of original. I'd go with the vinyl top. It's all what you like.

I'd go with the comfort weave, but ditch the top.

My vote is to keep it original.

Many thanks, I to not a fan of vinyl tops. Who ever had it painted the blue/green color ditched the top for me. I just need to carefully strip the peeling and cracking paint off. and delete the molding they left on. I like the comfort weave interior and will be keeping that. I striped the interior out of it Sunday and my floors are PERFECT! just as red as it was painted yesterday.

I like the later Halo tops, I'm keeping the one on my 74, but the ones that come down around the sides, just don't do it for me.

Sounds like you've already made up your mind, but I'm gonna vote for the top anyway. I have a black top on a black car and I think it adds rather than subtracts. If you need any convincing, take a look at the Stallion owned by Dan Starnes. It has a vinyl top and is one of the best looking Mavericks, period.

Sam I was thinking on the same line, but my biggest concern is rusting under the top. I like the top because I don't see them. Red with a black top must look good. If someone could convince me not to worry about what is going on under the vinyl, I would put the vinyl back on.
Someone chime in on good prep and paint before top go's on. Also garaged when not driven will these things help keep the top safe.

who ever had the car be for it came to Florida riped the head liner out to see under side of the roof . Looking for rust I'm sure.

oh btw, i could go either way on the top but if it was me then i'd prolly ditch it. the only reason i went with a white top on my car is because it come with it from the factory but it was painted and not vinyl.

isnt that the seat belt interlock switch or w/e its called where you cant start the car unless you buckle up?

i am a fan of the people who leave the vinal top trim but actually remove the metal and paint where the top used to be

i think mean maverick's car above is done like that?

I'm not sure about belts and warning light I didn't see any wires or a light...
    I will look closer soon.
