After reading the threadabout bumper tucks yesterday, I decided it was a good thing to do. I decided to err on the safe side and only went 2 1/2 inches instead of the 3" that some spoke of. So far, it's not too complicated. Just do a lot of measuring and MARK THE OUT SIDE OF THE FRONT PLATE. That's so yopu can locate the front plate when you weld it back on.
I measured from the plate back 2 1/2 inches from each corner. then connected the dots. I used a 4" grinder to cut what I could reach and then used a Sawzall to finish the cut. Grinf both the end and the plate smooth and carefuylly weld back together. De-Grease and paint. Ready for install
I need to do this one day. Post up the finished pictures when you are done. I wonder if 2 1/2" will be enough to not block the side marker.
I am hoping 2 1/2" won't block the light or I'll have to shave it. Or find anmother set of bumper mounts and go back to stock
htey are just lights on the side of thefenders. See the pics Mine is a '73 I have front and rear lights
Have you any thoughts/plans on lighten up the inside shell on the front bumper? I'm thinking about cutting the center section out and use the ends to bolt the bumper to the bracket. The idea also came to mind to make my own brackets out of 2 pieces of channel iron. I hope this will loose about 45 lbs of the total weight. For you small bumper guys wondering...a big bumper with inner shell and mounts weights 89 pounds on the bathroom scales!! Thats a lot of extra weight to tote around if you think about it. The chrome shell by its self is 29 lbs
